has anyone tried this? can i use wax paper? on some sites they say you can use plain white paper but i wonder if it'll burn or stick to the cupcake. can't find any unbleached parchment here.

if you've made your own can you post pictures? thanks!

They are put around the cupcake after they are baked, if I'm not mistaken so you can use any kind of paper pretty much, I've seen them made out of beautiful wrapping paper and scrapbooking paper. HTH

I made some from scrapbook paper. There is a template here in the gallery. I used scrapbooking scissors as well for a nice edge.....or you could use paper punches. I then hot glued the ends together. Do not bake in them, they are just a collar and the bottom is narrow enough that the cupcake doesn't slip thru.

If baking it must be a food safe product made for the oven.

I know there was a thread here a few months back talking about how they used smaller white doily's to make cupcake liners.

I tried doing a search but no luck icon_sad.gif

Mayber another CC'r may have better luck finding it icon_smile.gif

Here are a couple of links to threads discussing making your own cupcake wrappers:

Thanks to AlamoSweets

Here is a link for the template thanks to dynee

I have made both the doilies and used the template. If using the template, I design the wrapper in PrintShop 23, print them on regular printer paper, wax them with wax paper, cut them out and secure them with double faced tape. The popcorn cupcakes in my photos were done this way.

I recently got a Silhouette, a machine similar to a Cricut, and there are lots of cupcake wrappers you can download, and cut with it. I sometimes redesign these to fit what I need. When they are cut they have a tab and slot to put it together. I usually cut these out of cardstock, you can also use scrapbooking paper. HTH

Those wrapper are gorgeous but they don't bake. You bake in an ordinary liner and then place the cooled cupcakes inside the wrappers. They are so beautiful!!!

am talking about actual cupcake liners where you bake the cupcakes in. i've seen them and they're so adorable, you just cut a square and kind squish it into the cupcake tray and put the batter in.

so food safe paper i.e. parchment and wax paper right? any other papers? thanks!

Those are cute, but I prefer the store bought ones just to save time and then wrap them with a pretty cover. Just my 2 cents ; )

On Martha Stewart's cupcake show there was a cupcake store in NYC - can't remember the name - but she said she cuts 7 1/2 inch squares of parchment and just shoves it in a regular cupcake tin. Is this what you're thinking?

You've got to let us know how it works for you. The cupcakes on Martha's show looked so delicious, plus with the higher paper you could really load on the icing.

If you are still looking for different type of paper you could try a coffee filter. I've done used these on the bottom of cakes, so I know they bake well.

Coffee filters? Really? What a great tip! I just hate cutting rounds pieces of wax paper for my pans. Thanks ; )

Okay that should say that I've used these when baking cakes. Wow, I guess I need more sleep! It was a tip I got from Cooks Illustrated.

i have been eyeing our coffee filters. my Dh would not like it though. he loves coffee.

I use paper padding on the bottom of my pans for cakes. I just find one that is 1/4 inch bigger than the pan I use and just lay that down. so easy. i HATE cutting round wax papers. still do.
