Hi all,

I will be trying to make my first 3-d cake next week (eek!) and I would like some suggestions on planning the structure. The pig cakes in the gallery are amazing. Does anyone have tips on the cake shapes I should use or possibly seen a tutorial for a pig cake around?

Thanks for any help you can give!!

Bump. Don't forget to pm the cc'ers who made the cakes you like. I've had great success with doing that! Welcome to cc - nice to see another Virginian here!

Hi,
I did a pig roast cake it was one of my favorite cakes. I dont know of any tutorials but I can tell you how I did my cake.

The body was made in large roaster pan (for baking turkey), then the head was made from the Wilton small ball pan, the snout made from a vegetable can ( we peeled the label and wash it well), the arms and legs are made from rice krispy treats, and the ears and tail made from chocolate. The apple is the real deal! The entire thing is iced in BCD and airbrushed. HTH

Thanks for the replies!

TNTFundraiser: Do you know anyone in the Charlottesville area that is on CC? and I'll pm some of the pig makers I like, thanks!

AWESOME cake, acperry!! you can bake a cake in a can? woah! Using something other than a cake pan is a totally new concept to me!

I think I'll be going for a more whimsical design rather than realistic, mostly since I don't have access to an airbrush machine. That seems to put the final realistic touch on them.

Any other suggestions or helpful hints out there?
