I have "softened" laffy taffy and tootsie rolls and shaped them for use on cakes. The tootsie rolls get hard very quickly. I used the long laffy taffy rods. It only takes 5 second increments in the microwave
One time I used Chocolate Laffy taffy to make a surfboard for a cake.
I think I just microwaved for like 5 seconds or something to soften everything up to roll it out.
I use starburst, they're not quite as soft as laffy taffy, so they hold their shape for roses better... I have a few cakes in my pictures with starburst roses, and I really like them!
I've made Starburst and Tootsie Roll Midgees roses, both using a petal cutter and the ribbon roses. They're fast, easy, and everyone likes the way they taste.
I just have to hide the package of candy, or my teenage son eats them all. LOL
