My brother is getting married this month. I was tasked to make cupcakes. I'm really in love with Nigella Lawson's cupcakes

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/nigella-lawson/cupcakes-recipe2/index.html

But will the royal icing be safe for a pregnant woman? The bride is "eating for two" and I don't know if raw egg white will be safe.

I love the look of the RI because it's so clean and white and it gets hard, perfect for our weather/humidity here. It's also easy to make.

If I can't use it, can you suggest a recipe instead of that?

TIA! icon_biggrin.gif

Instead of raw egg whites you could use the powdered egg whites for your royal icing. That's what I use when I make royal icing.

Raw egg white is not safe for pg ladies, but meringue powder/dried egg white is fine.

can't find powdered egg whites here I'm afraid. icon_sad.gif Will RI powder be okay?

I was also thinking, what about just top it with a glace, like Toba's maybe? That hardens in my experience...

I just hate living in a place where they call simple things a different name...

I found egg white powder. But here they call it egg albumen! argh! i've seen this before and have been meaning to research it but keep forgetting. If I only knew! ARGH!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone! I hope it's still available in the cake supply store I frequent.
