Hi,
I have never made a gumpaste topper before and I want one like this one in the picture (Sorry, don't know who made this cake,it was sent to me) I have a few questions:

1- Do I make it with gumpaste only or 50-50 gumpaste and fondant?
2-After the number is dry, how do i attach it to the cake? Can I just use RI or do i put a piece of wire in the number while its drying and then attach it on the top of the cake with RI as well as wire?
3-Can I transport the cake with the topper or should i put it once I'm there?
4-I also have to make the bow and it would match the color of the topper. Should i make the bow with gumpaste also? (so i can match the colors exactly?or is it possible to match the colors even if one os out of gumpaste and one out of fondant)

Thanks a lott! You guys are the best!!

I would make the bow and the number all out of gumpaste only. Colour them at the same time to get the colour to match. I would put a couple of dowels in the bottom of the number to stick into the cake and then attach it with RI if it is on a fondant cake. You should be able to do all this when you make the cake, not when you deliver it. That's just my opinion though, I hate to have to do anything after delivery!

Thanks. By 'couple of dowels in the bottom of the number', do u mean couple of 'wires'?

I personally would stick a couple of toothpicks in the bottom of the number, before it's dry. When it's dry and you're ready to put it into the cake, just wet the bottom of the number with a little sugar glue and then stick the toothpicks all the way into the cake.

I'm doing a cake with a '1' topper in the next few weeks, and that's how I plan to do it.
