My customer just came to pick up her cake, instructions were caramel mud with a dog on top. This was my first doggie model in fondant and I was so pleased with it. I had semi closed the lid on the cake box to keep it safe and when I opened it to show her, his tail had broken in two!
Ok - not a total disaster I know, but shit, shit, shit! I'm all aggitated and so annoyed with myself.
Oh it's so cute.
Unfortunately it's one of the best ways to remember to never to do that again.
Hey! Some breeds do have clipped tails!!! Declare it one of those!!!
Precious cake. If I were the customer, I would not have thought too much about it... little stubby tailed dog. Cute.
So darn cute! Your work is so clean. I thought you were going to say you dropped the cake. Now that WOULD have been a disaster!

Yep - lesson learned. Clipped tail - thanks for making me laugh, I feel better now!
Oh darlin',he's adorable!
But you don't cry over a broken tail. You cry over a cake that you dropped, stepped in, slid across the floor, then land plop-down center on top of the cake with your butt!
THAT'S when you cry!
A broken tail? No biggy!
Yeah you're right, should have posted in general forum probably. Please god dont ever let me fall butt first into one of my cakes! I spent 2 days guarding my topper from my kids - then I'm the one who breaks it!
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

This could be The Daily Prayer of Cake Makers!

Oooh this could be the beginning of a funny new thread - I'll start it!
For my nephew Trevor's tank cake, I put in into the box, but knew it was too tall to close the box. (It's in my pix - he's going to Kandahar sometime soon, hence the tank.)
My son decided to look at the cake (not a problem) and then closed the lid, which just rested on the helmet. When he lifted it up again, to show his sister, Trevor's head stuck to the lid!! Not a biggie, but Trevor did end up having a flat head and helmet on one side for the party.

Oh what a shame - though it's kinda funny with the message that's written on the cake i.e If you dont - this is what might happen! God bless him and keep him safe.
His head was on a toothpick, so it just needed to be placed back. But it was so hot, the fondant was soft all day. The tank wasn't edible, though (styrofoam), so we didn't have to 'eat Trevor'.
Your doggie looks great. He is precious. But I can understand when you finish a cake and your just beaming with pride and the smallest set back can take it away.

I did start it, but it got deleted. I asked one of the moderators why and did not receive a response. Can only assume it was because it said "Prayer". I did write something called "I am a Cake Decorator" which is posted in the general forum if you are interested.
Anyhow, feeling better about the dog now. The birthday girl loved her cake, it was delicious and the kids devoured the rest of the dog the next day!
