I have a cupcake order where I need to tie ribbon around the cupcake. we tried glue dots to attach the ribbon to the paper, but it wont since they're greasy. I don't want to use a second paper liner if I can help it. But if I have to, I guess I will. Any other suggestions on how to get the ribbon to stay on the cupcakes? THANKS in advance!

I have never tried this but I was reading about putting ribbon around a buttercream cake and all you have to do is take the ribbon and using an iron on low heat place waxed paper over the ribbon and heat. It transfers the wax to the ribbon so it will not absorb the grease.

Let me know if this work!

The problem isnt the ribbon absorbing the grease, it's keeping the ribbon from sliding off the cupcake. I tie the ribbon around the cupcake, and it slides down and falls off. I tried using Glue Dots to adhere the ribbon to the paper, but it wont stick because it is greasy. I don't want to have to use double liners if I don't have to because I've already tried and it's such a pain.

Anyone ever tie ribbon around a cupcake before? Any tips?

cut your ribbon at inward angles on both sides to taper the ribbon to adjust for the circle. I would then glue them together around maybe the pan to form a ring, like a second pan liner. Then slip into place. Make sure the ring will be snug and work it up in place. HTH

Thanks for the idea, but cutting on an angle wont do anything because I'm tying the ribbon into a bow. It's satin ribbon, and even if I tie it tight, it is still sliding down. I don't want to tie it any tighter, it will damage the cupcake. I'm afraid I'll just have to double line them like I thought I would. that way the Glue Dots will stick to the paper liner and my ribbon wont slide down. It's just a real pain, and will take longer :/

double sided tape? probably going to have the same problem.
maybe a hot glue gun would be better, but id be worried about it seeping through the paper, but maybe thats just a bit of paranoia!

go ahead and do like I suggested earlier and make your ring out of the satin ribbon but make it snug. Use a glue gun and glue the ring in place. add a bow to the ring to cover the glue gun dot. Make it in two pieces. Using the double line may work as well. Try that and see if that will work for you. I have only done the ribbon ring and that worked for me.

how about putting the greasy cupcake in a foil liner then trying to tie the ribbon on using double sided tape in a couple spots to help the ribbon stay in place?

When I use any kind of ribbon I stick the ends together using a mixture of meringue powder and water, and I just briush the ends I want attached with it press it together.

Works every time for me and it drys fairly quick. No chemicals, glues or non edible risk.
