I am planning on making a wine bottle in a crate. I read a lot off pple mention that they have used gumpaste to make the bottle.I have used gumpaste in the past only 2 create flowers.

My question is will I be able to cut the cake if I use gumpaste(Wilton) or shud I just use MMF & add tylose to it.

Or do u suggest that I use 50-50 gumpaste & fondant.

I was wondering if I cud use chocolate to make the bottle. But wud any kind of chocolate form a hard shell around the bottle when frozen, can I use modeling chocolate?

Also need to know do I just need to grease the bottle with shortening before I apply the gumpaste/fondant.

Any help in this regards is truly appreciated.

I have a link for the cake I intend to make a cake somewhat like this one.Its from some1 here on CC.Hope she doesn't mind me using the image.

I tried to make a bottle from gumpaste, but it broke. I actually made my bottle from cake. I used 2 empty vegetable cans, greased them really well and when they were cooled a bit, I used the can opener to cut the bottom lid off and pushed the cake out. I made the neck of the bottle from RKT. I put them togther, crumb coated it and covered in fondant. worked perfectly.. If you do this, just make sure that when you make the neck of the bottle you make it quite a bit smallar than you need, as it will be covered twice in fondant(once in the color of the bottle and second the wrap on the cork.. I used gumpaste for the crate, just rolled it out thick measured and cut and let them dry complety. I know this isn't what you asked, but thought it may help....good luck icon_smile.gif

Thanks 4 ur response cathy, it seemed very helpful. I had 1 question, If i used gumpaste for the sides of the crate it will harden right? So will pple be able to cut into it? I have previously used gumpaste for flowers only.

It will get really hard, I just took the sides off right before I cut the cake. The cake under the crate only had BC on it not fondant so they came off easily. I haven't been able to upload pictures in a while so its not posted..I hope this helps you.

I have made a wine bottle in a crate before. My bottle was cake that I carved into a bottle shape, placed it on a board in the exact size, covered in foil, and then covered the bottle in fondant. For the sides of the crate, it was cake also that I attached fondant strips to the side of. That way the people could eat the bottle, the cake, and the sides without a problem.

Thanks to 1 & all for all ur suggestions & tips however I dropped the idea of adding chocolate logs coz it had 2 travel almost an hour to my hubby's office & i tried testing it by keeping it out but it was melting due to the heat.So made all of it with fondant. However I did learn to make the logs & they turned out quite good considering it was my first time.Just that I didn't use it on my cake.Do checkout my pic & let me know if it needs any.
