What is your favorite cookie icing in regards to flavor and ease of application? I made my first ever trial round of cookies yesterday with rolled buttercream and royal icing details. After quite a bit of trial and error, I was able to get the rolled buttercream on the cookie quite well, thanks to the freezer, but I wasn't to crazy about the flavor. It was WAY too sweet. So that brings me to a couple of questions...
After mixing in my KA, how much additional powdered sugar should I use? This may help solve my flavor issue, I used A LOT more powdered sugar.
The recipe I used did not call for butter flavoring. Could this help with the flavor/sweetness?
Any recommendations to a newbie on detailng with the royal icing? I used a #3 tip, but everything looked like a kidergarten child had decorated it. I'm going to pick up a 1 and 2 and see how those work. Any easy decorations for detailing Valentine cookies?
