Once you've used the circuit machine with fondant or gumpaste can you then use it with paper?

I am so enthralled with these designs but I am also so new to this I have no idea what the heck a cricut is - but I find myself wanting one now! What is it and what do you use for the designs? Fondant or gumpaste or a custom blend of them?
Wow it is impressive!

If you are familiar with bidding on Ebay, you can get a slightly better deal than buying at WalMart which was $290 in my area.

Cutting gumpaste doesn't ruin your Cricut for cutting paper. Just move the rollers to one side.

Hope to have a cake to post next week!

Yup you just need a USB chord, I thought SCAL came with one, but you can just get one at walmart or best buy.

I highly reccomend the Cricut Expression and the bundle deals on HSN, you really can't find a better price for all they offer. Also if you try EBay just be careful, I've been told there were some sellers on their listing a Cricut E (maybe by mistake) when they actually had one of the other machines. I love EBay & haven't had a personal problem, just what I've heard.

Here's what I posted in another thread about the deal I got & the coupon code for HSN

*******
I got a Expressin bundle from HSN it came with all the stuff listed & 4 cartridges! (they switch which ones at different times) They have a no interest no hidden fee flex pay option so you can spread it out over 4 months I think, but after their first time buyers coupon code (C56574
15% off for new customers) my total was like $280, an incredible deal! I love this machine more every time I use it (as for baking uses I do the lettering on all of my cake boards, cookie and cake stencils, bake sale signs and I will be using it for fondant and gumpaste as quickly as I can after I return from my deployment)

Here's the exact bundle I got;

I make my own fondant - Micelle Foster's. It works really, really well with the tylose!

Here is a cake I just made using my cricut. I made a stencil for the stars, and the continents are fondant mixed with tylose.

It looks like there will be a Cricut in my future at some point! Beautiful designs can be done with them, very impressive details. Wow, I am amazed!
There are different models to choose from so which one would be the best? I would want to get one that I would not feel I would need to upgrade down the road, but also wouldn't want to get more features than I need I guess either. I don't do scrap-booking (unless that becomes a future hobby) so it would just be for cake decorating.

Hey shearpamela, it's not really a matter of features with the different models, the main thing is the cut size options, I have the Expression, the largest in the line and I would absolutely recommend it, there are also a few things that it does that are nice for caking, like being able to tell it to cut as many of a shape or letter that will fill the entire 'page', especially for scrolls and stuff.

I bought mine on Craigslist 70.00 (used 3 times)" the personal one" the lady I bought it from said everyone told her to get the exressions but the only thing is the size. I figure save money get the small one and then you can get SCAL to go with it for the same price.. If you decide you will be using it alot more then upgrade. But I love it even just for fonts it is easy I never even used one before and you will love it too.. icon_lol.gifthumbs_up.gif

This bridal shower cake as chocolate scrolls (or whatever you call them) on the sides which I cut using the Cricut. It did take some experimenting and I want the result to be better, but considering it was a first time, I'm pleased with it. The scrolls were similar to what she has on her invitation.

First the side of the cake then the top.

I just made this the other day and cut all the flowers with my cricut. The buttercream wasn't too smooth though. It was late and I was tired and it was a free cake for an ungrateful woman. At least ungrateful by my definition. But at least it gave me the opportunity to do something with the cricut!

SharonK1973 I love that flower on your cake. Was that in a Cricut cartridge? If so, which one? Or if you got the svg file off the internet, would you share where you found it? Thanks a bunch.

Oh - yeah! I got those as SVG files. But I think there is a cartridge that has those. But, you can also go to scrappingtable.com and they have several free downloadable files on there, including this one!

okay this is a dumb question, but I don't understand how you cut fondant or gumpaste in this machine...I mean do you just roll your fondant or gumpaste into the machine and click on whatever image you want and then it cuts it out for you? Please please help me. I really want to buy one if this it what it does..I guess I just need some thorough help on this. Thanks again! icon_redface.gif

There's like this matting that you would normally adhere scrapbooking paper and put that through the machine. But you are able to strip that adhesive off, clean the matting thoroughly and then roll out your fondant or gumpaste on it and then put it through the machine. So it work like a printer only that it cuts instead of print. If you get it for cake purposes, you won't be sorry! It is so much fun and the possibilities are endless! Once you get the hang of it, its easy!

I don't think that's a dumb question, thanks for asking. I didn't know either. To use circuit for cake decorating do you print designs on paper then cut them out. What is the purpose of this does it save money and time( I would imagine so)

Just an FYI, but on Black Friday Joann will have the Cricut personal cutter for $74.88. I've got my eye one one too. At that price, even for a hobby baker it's a worthwhile expense.
