Need Help Making A Football Helmet Please!

I need help/instructions on how to make a football helmet cake.
My grandson sprung a quickie last minute change in cakes on me...so a football helmet is his final call.
I need to know what size cakes, I'm assuming the ball pan and two 8 inch cakes???
How to carve it, and how to make the face mask so it will fit to the dimensions of the cake, also how to make the face mask curve.
Lets face it, I need all the help I can get in every aspect of this cake and any advice, tips, and tricks I can get will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,Mary
Hi,
I did a football helmet for my friend recently, I've attached the photo..
I used the wilton ball tin which is 6" diameter so I used 2 6" rounds on mine and carved it to get the helmet shape.
If you put a little hoop of paste where the ear holes go before laying on the fondant, it will give you the right shape for the holes without any major work.
I used florist wire for my guard as I could shape it as I wanted then. I used red florist tape to make the wires the colour I want and to secure them all together. I just found this easier than making it out of gumpaste as it gives you more flexibility and is sturdier.
Then, where it says Riddell on the helmet, I put my friends surname for a laugh.
thanks! I live in the UK so I had to go with pics from the internet for the helmet, but my friend really loved it!
Oh WOW, Thanks for your time and help, Im taking notes...
Great cake!!!
Thanks Bunches and Bunches!
