Hi all! My brother just had a double lung transplant a little over 2 months ago, and should be able to come home within the next 2 weeks. My mom and sister in law are planning a party for him for this fall, partly as a welcome home party, and partly as a thank you to the amount of support, prayers, and outreach we've gotten this year through all of this.

I don't think I can bring myself to make a cake shaped like lungs, and then have to cut and serve it (eww!) so I would like to do a really cool, over the top Superman cake. It sounds kind of silly, but my brother has referred to himself as needing to be like Superman and overcoming his obstacles through his life and the process of the transplant.

I've searched the gallery and haven't really found anything, but I didn't know if any of you know of any cakes out there that might work for me? Or have any ideas? I really want this cake to be special; I don't know if that's why I'm drawing a blank on it?!

Here's my thought.

Do the big S for superman all carved out as big as you need for servings sitting in a pair of angel wings.

Angel wings made out of...what...hmm...I mean I just did some out of boiled sugar and that's as far as my brain gets b--but angel wings made out of something--pastillage or fondant--just arrange a bunch of fondant feathers to resemble angel wings cupped around the sides of the S like a big fluffly white heart shape underneath and sticking out from under the S.

So happy to hear of his great medical success and y'all's getting to keep him.

I mean the whole symbol on his chest --it's like kinda pentagon shaped-outa sculpted cake.

You're kinda half way there with the wing shape.

Just a superman thought for yah that might jog you into something creative.

Me, I would even do a superman cape.

Ok so put a fondant superman cape on the cake board with the inside of the cape up
Back side of the cape down touching the board.
Make it look flowy

Then angel wings on top of that. And you could leave the center section of the angel wings bare so the superman logo thing fits better. I mean you could build the cape and the wings around the S logo.

Then the sculpted S pentagon thing on top of that.

Dude, can I do it for yah? I'm totally digging this.

The decorator used rock candy for the kryptonite. I think it looks pretty cool! You could write something like, "Sometimes even Superman needs heroes" on the cake.

K8-The angel wings are a good idea, and would actually have more of a significance than you realize.......we are very involved in the CF Great Strides walk every year, and my brother's team is called "Joey's Angels." I can't even tell you the amount of support that we've had from people...people that we don't even know! True angels. =)

My 4 year old daughter had a double lung transplant almost 3 years ago. I had her a lung cake made for her 2nd year post transplant. It turned out great and she loved it!!! It tasted really good and suprisingly didnt make your stomach turn when at the thought of eating it lol.
