Do You Actually Want Cake For Your Own Birthday?

Mine is coming up and, for some reason, my family feels pressure to get me this great cake for my birthday. I keep telling them I want canollis or something...no cake. They don't believe me no matter how much I say it. So it got me thinking...what do you want for your birthday? Cake or something else?
Lemon Meringue Pie!
Or, chocolate ice cream, stuffed into warm crepes, with strawberries, hot fudge and whipped cream.
For my most recent birthday, I actually wanted my husband to make me a cake with our children. I didn't care how ugly or bad tasting it was! He was too chicken to try though!
I want cake, I only really like my own cakes (Dutch cakes taste like cr*p!), but I have a wedding to do the day before, so the chances that I'll get time to make own are slim ! Supposed to be dieting anyway - sigh!
Anything chocolate - the darker the better! Don't care if it's cake. I do like the big chocolate cake at Sam's - someone there called it Chocolate Sin in a Tin!!!
hmm no cake for me..All I want is a brownie with ice cream lol...ALways makingcakes make me not want any..I had a babyshower of my cousin's last weekend and I didnt even eat a crumb of cake.
Yes, I surely do! My husband always gets me a store bought cake, ususally the deathly good all chocolate cake from Costco. I love cake and to me it just wouldn't be a birthday with out one!

normally, no, because birthdays are just not a big deal for me. My kids are not even sure when it is because I prefer it go by unnoticed. Not because I'm one of those fake-n-phony women who "don't do birthdays anymore" but because they are just not a big deal.
Except this year!
This year I turned 50, so I made a big 3-tier fondant covered, luster dusted cake big enought to feed 169 of my fraternity guys and I spent my 50th like every 50 year old lady wants to spend her 50th .... with a room full of young, good lookin' college guys! Yeah, baby!!!!!
I'm a big Carvel ice cream cake fan, so I get that every year. Even my office gets me one
Last year my Dad baked me a cake, which I thought was really nice of him. He & his wife didn't just go buy one (or forget all together).
So, YES I want cake - just make sure it's ice cream!
I would rather have Creme Brulee or Cannolis or fried ice cream or... the list goes on. But, I don't really want a cake.

Can you please elaborate? And then please tell me where I can get a room full of young, good looking college guys for MY birthday!
And, to answer the original question....I always want CAKE!

I cater their 3-day leadership conference every January and this year, it fell on my birthday weekend. 3 days of breakfast/lunch/dinner. I refer to them as "Banna's Boys!"
I do all the cakes for my family except mine....and since I do them all for free, every year my sister drives to the other side of Pittsburgh (about an hour trip for her each way) to Prantl's Bakery and buys their famous burnt almond torte. It's expensive and wonderful and it's the only place you can get it. Lots have tried to duplicate (including me) and none have succeeded. Before holidays, lines form sometimes twice around the bakery for this torte. Ok, now I want one and have to wait until February!!!
I used to make gooseberry jam from our gooseberry bush (what else?), and I just loved it. But the bush died, and I never planted another one. And now I want toast with gooseberry jam!

omgosh -- someone else who even knows what they are and likes them
I would take a cake, but I'd prefer to make my fudge brownies and then cover them with vanilla ice cream, fudge sauce, and nuts.
Oh!! Or, cheesecake. But not just any cheesecake. There's a casino near here that makes a cheesecake unlike anything I've ever tasted. I know, I know, a casino buffet isn't where I was expecting to find the world's best cheesecake, either.
Great. Now I'm dying for homemade brownies and/or to-die-for cheesecake.
I turned 51 this year and would also like the answer to that question, where can I find a room full of young guys too, LOL....I would love some kind of an ice-cream cake, with the choc. and choc. fudge in it , around it, anywhere on it. didn't get a cake when I turned 50 last year and did not get one this past Feb. either. Darling kids and boyfriend never gave it a thought I guess. LOL...but give me a ice-cream cake of some sorts and I would be happy camper.
I actually was going to post a question like this myself. I turn 50 in two weeks, and my family is coming from out of town to help me celebrate. There are no good cakes in my town except mine ( I know that sounds awful, but it's true), so I will be making my own cake. And yes, I love cake! I would love a nice dark chocolate one, but no one else likes it, so I will play nice and make yellow. But I plan on covering it in a wonderful ganache!!!
Happy Birthday indeydebi, from one 50 year old broad to another!
One year everybody thought the other person was going to get me a cake and no one did. I was having the worst year that year, going through a divorce. So, since then my Mom and best friend get me cake from the same bakery. My Mom gets me a white and my friend a strawberry. About a couple of weeks after my birthday, I'm sick of cake.
I've told them they both don't have to get me cake but they both do it anyways.
I love cake!!
My birthday is next week. I have only been decorating for almost a year, so I will be making my own cake this year. If I didn't make my own cake I'm sure someone in the family would go out and buy one for me because they never believe I don't want cake.
I actually do wish someone would get me cake for my birthday just because of the principle of the thing. haha. I'm always the one making cake for everyone else, but then nobody can get ME one for MY birthday? *sigh* haha. I guess they figure I'm sick of it...or that I won't like a store bought one very much.
I am new to cakes, so I really want to make my own decorated cake for next week. But unfortunately is my last wilton class, so I have to make a cake for the class, so I guess this year I will get the wilton cake hahaha ...but I have so many to make...I am turning just 30...
LOL
I'm not really a cake eater i prefer to decorate them my birthday choice would be tablet (sugar based scottish sweet kind of a cross between fudge and toffee). There's no cake in the land that can touch it
Cake? For me? For my birthday? You better believe it...I don't think my cakes are good, I know they are dang great, and I love them just as much as my clients. Bring on the cake!! I could never get sick of MY cakes!
Which of course means, no, no one else will be making my cakes ever again. I'll do it thanks.
I love cake! I probably would go for a ice cream cake since I love those also and it's a once a year treat.
I always ask for a French silk pie from Baker's Square. And yes, within two days I have eaten the whole thing, aside from the two pieces I part with for the sake of my children and that whole "sharing" thing.
OMG. Freanch Silk pie. I used to make a French Silk pie with my granmother. So so rich. That sounds yummy right about now. My jeans just stretched out at the waist thinkging about it.
