in my classes, i have a couple of ladies that due to their religion, do not eat eggs - therefore, making it a little hard to use the meringue powder in the royal icing and color flow icing. does anyone know how to make the royal and color flow icing without the meringue powder?

I think there are recipes out there that don't use MP. Hopefully, someone else will be able to give you a recipe.

It's pretty hard to make royal icing without using egg whites. You can use just water if you want to make a glace icing but it won't have the strength or durability of royal icing.

Saw this when I googled royal icing without eggs:

Vegan Royal Icing

Ingredients:
1 lb. confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup powdered soy milk
3/8 cup soy milk
3/8 cup light corn syrup
flavoring as desired

the above can be found at the following 2 links (with directions):

Here's another one found at with directions on site: http://www.grouprecipes.com/31155/vegan-royal-icing.html:

Ingredients

* 1 cup confectioners' sugar
* 2 teaspoons milk substitute or water (I used rice milk)
* 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
* 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (I used clear vanilla instead)
* assorted food coloring

and here's another:

Hope one of these help.

This would be more along the lines of a glace icing than a royal icing. Glace icing can be made with almost any type of liquid and there is NO egg in it.
