I've got a few no one has ever said anything OR "faved". Big deal. If you are comfy with your skills then don't sweat it. If you are looking for advice and further encouragement, ask a question. Don't hang your hopes on a bunch of faceless CCers who breeze in and out of the galleries like the wind. Huh. Poetic? Nah....I'll keep my day job.

I don't post often on here. Very busy lately but I do look at cakes sometimes. I post comments on the ones that I look at usually. I don't post critics for two reasons. The main one, I feel I am in nooooo way good enough myself to critic someone! Two, you never know if you are going to affend someone. Some people want critics (myself) and some don't! And you would hear about it! So I just post what I like about a cake. I had posted a picture on a yahoo group once and this GREAT lady said how she liked my cake and offerred a suggestion on my borders. And I was very thankful for that!! I always keep it in mind when making a cake. It is just so hard to know which is the "correct" answer anymore.

Or, if you're a newbie like me, stumble upon this post and start thinking, "yeah, no one's posted on my pics, either- oh well". Then check on my profile and realize.. detective.gif uh... allowing others to post comments was checked NO! icon_redface.gif HeeHee. But like I just posted on another thread, just getting viewed makes me feel good!

_Jamie_, to answer the question you left under one of my cakes, sure, I'm fine with friendly constructive critisms... believe me, I know that cake (and my others) has many areas for improvement! The painting was sloppy, the beads were uneven, the bottom of the ribbons weren't finished properly, etc. We're our own worst critics sometimes I know icon_biggrin.gif

Isn't that part of what the comments are for?

Myself, I like to point out the positive, and give encouraging remarks....we are hard enough on ourselves already without people tearing your cakes down,, but thats just me. I think your cakes are very artistic.

I try to comment on cakes that i view also but I have notice a lot of views on some of my cakes also with no comments which to me comments make you at least let you feel that someone took notice in some of your work even if its to give advice on what to do to improve it.

I know what you mean Madge. I think beginners need the positive words to help them stay motivated and keep practicing, posotve reinforcement is not a bad thing. Honestly though, I haven't seen any comments that tear us down (of course I haven't seen every comment on this site!). I think if it's done in a friendly manner without coming across like an attack, it should be fine. I've seen some of the Critique Sub Members comments and none of them have seemed mean-spirited, only helpful suggestions.

I've learned everything from this site and I certainly appreciate everyone that has contributed for sure.

It's like bad breath... we don't know we have it if everyone smiles and noone says you have it! (bad analagy, I know but it's funny!)

No, I firmly believe the comment section is for the happy kittens part of this site. I don't think anyone should ever tell someone on their comment section about sloppiness or what they could do better. I believe that's what a PM, or the critique subgroup is for (even though that is in comments, but is clearly defined). Then there is no mistaking that constructive criticism is exactly what you're after.

Don't mean to be grouchy or rude, but that's my thoughts on it.

I would never give constructive criticism in the comments. That's just for the happy sweet stuff. If someone really wants criticism, they should post in the forums asking for opinions of that cake.

A couple things though...it's easier to comment on a cake that has a description. And instead of uploading all the pictures of every cake you've ever done at one time, it's nice to spread them out a little bit....it's hard for a GSM to go through and comment on the cakes when there's like 10 in a row from the same person, because then that person might feel like we're stalking them icon_biggrin.gif So that's how cakes sit a while with no comments sometimes.

I tried to post a comment today on one of the pictures for the "most recent pictures today" and for some reason I couldn't make the comment, everything else came under the picture, but not the comment space, that was the first time that happened to me when I looked at a picture. so maybe that is what is happening to some that do not get a comment, no comment space comes up. But then I click on another picture to see if it does the same thing, and I get the comment space to post my comment, not sure why some come up with it and some don't.

I just checked the photo again and got the same thing no comment space, but I want to tell SUZISWEET "Raspberry" your cupcakes look so delicious. since I can not comment on them, not sure if anyone else is having that problem when they bring it up. Suzisweet just want to let you know how beautiful that picture is and those cupcakes are beautiful also.

if it's a pic that's been entered into the current contest, you won't be able to comment it until the contest is over or until a specific date that has been set for the contest judging, I think... someone correct me if I'm wrong!

(or if that person has the comment acceptance turned off)

Ok, didn't think of a current contest, not sure if there was one runing or not, but nice to know anyway since I am still a newbie at all this. Thank you Chilz822.
I will wait and check back on it at another time to see if I can post under her picture. Thanks again.

She may also have her comments turned off. It just hit me, if it were a contest, you wouldn't be able to see her name and the current contest is for 'Superhero Cakes'... so I'm sorry, I was wrong... the contest shouldn't be the reason. It's most likely she has her comments are turned off.

I am the worst at leaving comments.. icon_redface.gif

But this is why.. I am so busy answering emails and trying to help in other areas that when I come to CC I barely have time to look at the photos.. When I have free time and come to CC I come directly to answer questions.

As for people looking and not leaving comments.. That happens to everybody.. So it doesnt have to do with the fact that you are not good..I think you do wonderful work..

Not everyone comes to CC for the same reasons, but we all give some and we all take some. If you're not getting what you needed from posting your cake in the gallery, post it in a thread and ask specifically for what you want (ie. critique, comments, opinions). I'm personally a Gallery Supporter Member, and have slacked off lately, because of all the complaining that goes on: Comments are too "generic", comments are too "critique-y", etc. etc. There is no guarantee that by posting a picture of your cake in the gallery you will get tons and tons of comments. I guess what I'm trying to say is I wish folks would stop complaining about it, and I don't mean that directed solely to the OP. Sorry if that offends anyone.

I think a big reason why pics have so many more views than comments is because most people looking at the photos on here are not registered members. If you scroll down to the bottom of the Forum "home" page (that lists all the forum categories), it shows how many users are currently on Cake Central. The number of guests is always much higher than the number of registered members. I just checked and as I'm typing this there are 722 registered members and 1630 guests using Cake Central right now. Guests can look at photos, but can't save them as favorites or make comments. They can read forums, but can't post messages. Other than that, I think it's that a lot of people just don't comment. Most of the comments I get on my photos are on the first day I upload them. I continue to get views and favorites, but rarely do I get a comment beyond the first day or two after uploading.

The only reason I'd like a comment is because I'd like to hear if I can improve in some areas...however, I totally understand if people (like myself) often don't have time to write...always in a hurry, you know.

Thank you to all that leave comments though!!! thumbs_up.gif

Log yourself and try it. You can view all the galleries, but there's no option to comment or save to favorites. If you try to do certain searches, you'll get a message that you must be a registered member to use that feature.

Ah, but one can certainly right click and save to their computer. And remove watermarks. And post on their own site representing it as their own work. tapedshut.gif

Lol....but one can do that with any pic on the web, so that's nothing shocking. icon_biggrin.gif
