Okay, so I have a stupid question - is anyone bringing a laptop? How are we going to go a whole week without our beloved CC??? Seriously, I can't go an hour during the day without checking things out !

I am going to have my laptop. The problem is and somebody correct me if I am wrong. Internet is not free on a boat. You can buy a block of minutes from the cruise line and it is pretty expensive. You can also bring your air card. So, if you have a like a verizon card, you have to have service like your cell phone, so it will work pretty well at port but not so much in the middle of the ocean. Hope this help.. ps I really have no idea what I am talking about.. just my experience...

I am also bringing my laptop since my kids will be freaking out if I don't keep in touch...my daughter specifically opened up a Skype account for me so we can video-call icon_smile.gif... my kids are grown it just that I've never gone anywhere without them LOL icon_biggrin.gif

Although, I was hoping we would get free wi-hi on the ship.

Forget about free. The last cruise I went on charged 50 cents a minutes, although it was cheaper if you pre-bought large blocks of time.

I found this blurb on the cruise-link.com website. Don't know if it is still the current price...

Holland America Cruise Line:
Internet access is available 24 hours a day on Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Ryndam, Volendam, Zaandam, Maasdam, Statendam, Westerdam, Veendam, Noordam, Oosterdam, Prinsendam and Zuiderdam. Each ship features an Internet Center, and in addition there are a number of "hot spots" available on each ship for personal laptop use. Guests on all Vista Class ships may access the Internet directly from their stateroom. There is a one-time activation fee of $3.95. The basic time charge is $.75 per minute, or you can purchase a discounted time plan of 100 minutes for $55.00 or 250 minutes for $100.00. Laptops may be rented for $20 per day.

Don't know the specifics about Holland America cruises, but in general there are designated smoking areas on the ship: the casino, certain lounges, designated outdoor eating areas. Smoking is not allowed in the restaurants, the cabins (except on your private balcony if you have one), hallways, or the common areas.

OMG- We are less than 3 weeks away! I can hardly think about Thanksgiving because all I want to due is start packing : swimsuit, suntan lotion, hat, apron for caking (just incase!), sun glasses. Have I forgotten anything? LOL
