Does anyone have any suggestions or instructions on makeing a gumpast hibiscus. I looked but couldnt find any info on cutters or instructions. I have a tropical themed cake for this weekend and thought it would be nice if i could make some in the next few days.
thanks for all the help! icon_biggrin.gif

I use a 5 petal rose cutter, arrange the petals with a wide, kind of bowl shaped center then make a separate stamen which gets attached with gum glue to the center.

Very easy!

Great tutorial!! I've been wanting to make a hibiscus cake for my mom...

I made these with a Wilton 5 petal cutter, just cut separations between the petals, frilled the edges and veined a tiny bit, then put them into an egg tray to dry. The centers were done with a long skinny piece that I rolled like a snake, then a yellow piece that I cut with a tiny sun-shaped hole punch, then a ball of the original stamen color. Then I dusted the centers with luster dust. They're not perfect lifelike copies of a hibiscus but they came out pretty good considering how easy they were.

Thanks so much for all the help. Mine turned out pretty good. Unfortunitly the cake as a whole did not fair so well...terribly hot and humid weather gave me my first cake disaster...oh well, live and learn. It worked out ok i guess. Ill post a pic once I get them downloaded.

In my pix on the Gilda's Club cake I made my hibiscus using Scott Woolley's cutters and instructions.
