Hi, could you Wilton teachers share with me what you are making your course 2 sample cakes with? I don't have access to oval dummies and the cake is 7" so it's a weird size.

could I make it out of regular cake, ice in royal and hope that it doesn't give off noxious fumes? Thanks.

Actually, the wilton coures 2 kit does come with two 7" oval pans. Well, it did when I did my course 3 plus years ago. I guess these are to bake your cake in.
When I did my wilton courses, we used real cakes that we baked at home and brought to class.

When I taught we had a WMI that used cake boards and decorated them like the top of the cakes. They turned out really nice and were made with royal icing. You can also order your cake dummies from www.**********.com company (take out the spaces). They are really inexpensive.

I took the course just this past spring. The student kid comes with 2 oval pans.

Good luck with it.

OK as far as I understand you are asking about making a dummy?????? well I made my display cake with 6 inch round cake.
And I never ask my students that they have to use the oval pans. I think my job is to teach them techniques ,( flowers and basket weave) and they can use what ever shape pan they want to.

Yes, this is what they had us do at training (a few years ago) - we took a 10 in or 12 inch cakeboard, did basketweave around the bottom half of the circle, then a rope border around the entire circle, then place course 2 royal icing flowers coming out of the basket with the birds on the side...

Thanks everyone. I wasn't getting notifications that there were replies and I didn't see my original post. icon_surprised.gif

I hadn't thought about making a round dummy for the store sample. I was just thinking how pretty the oval was. I'll do a small round. thumbs_up.gif

My students can make whatever shape cake they want as long as they incorporate the stuff we are learning. I've found though that they seem to like the cakes in the books and that's okay too.

I didn't want to put too much extra into these samples because I think they are revamping everything for next year aren't they? I haven't been to an AIM meeting yet (I'm too far away) but they will be having one close to me next spring.

Why don't you get an oval styrofoam from a craft store and wrap it in plastic before the RI? There are very tall ones.

miny, I have a Michael's about 40 min away and my husband is going past there today. I'll have him look for one. Good idea. Thanks
