I read on one of the forums that you can use a plastic table cloth to roll out your fondant, so I went to Walmart and found in their fabric department a roll of clear 54" plastic table cloth material, I bought a yard.
I just have to say WOW! this stuff works fantastic.
it was enough to cut a large piece to roll out my fondant with little powered sugar and I also cut a small piece to roll out smaller things like bows, flowers and figures.
I even used it for sugarveil, nothing sticks to this stuff. the sugarveil peeled right off
it's Great!
and it was less than $3.00 for the yard
just thought I would pass on this great money saving tip I read on one of the forms
Thanks,
Did you get the clear, heavy stuff? It sure is wonderful. Make sure you don't ever fold it - always roll it up so it doesn't get creases that will show up on the fondant.
I do cookies and cut the vinyl into about 12 in squares to cut out the cookie shapes. It is the best, cause you can "peel" the shapes off just like labels. If you do get creases in your vinyl, just put it in very hot water, then lay on a flat surface and dry with a lintless cloth, will take the creases right out.
I did buy the clear heavy stuff, and thanks for the tip on rolling it
I love the tip for the cookies, I will have to try it
To clarify my cookie tip, I use rolled fondant for the icing, and that is what I am rolling on the vinyl. I roll the cookie dough between parchment paper. Just in case anyone was reading and thought I was rolling dough on the vinyl.
I don't even use powdered sugar on it anymore . A quick spray of Pam and roll away. I love it cause i can just flip the whole thin onto the cake then peel the plastic off!
One actually does not need to use either grease, spray or ps or cs on vinyl.
Just roll on it w/o any addition. You do have to lift the fondant after each couple of rolls but it's great not having to use anything else.
