I hate making MMF because it's so messy! I've been experimenting with Satin Ice and Fondarific and am unimpressed with both of them! I think they're great for decorations, but not for covering cakes. I CAN NOT get Satin Ice to cover a cake without looking like elephant skin and tearing and I couldn't roll the Fondarific out as thin as I wanted and I think it started to get cold so it hardened up and puckered. DANGIT! I don't even want to attempt MFF because it just seems like a recipe I would mess up. I just had to vent. I'm sick of having imperfections that I have to try and cover. I guess I'm back to MMF. Shoot.

Attempt MFF. You'll be glad you did! I thought it might have been a bit intricate but I did it and it came out perfect first try and I've been using it ever since! Good luck!

MMF isn't so messy if you let your mixer do the kneading work with the dough hook.

When I do MMF (I'm a MFF convert now!), I do everything in a big pyrex baking dish. Melt the marshmallows, add the sugar, knead ... the whole thing. The only mess I made was the sugar that puffed up while I was working the fondant. One bowl and one wooden spoon to wash! thumbs_up.gif

the recipie seems complicated but it works. Worked beautifully the first time I made it and it smooths like a dream! Try it we all know you will like it! The only part that could mess anyone up is not getting the gelatin all the way dissolved so make sure it really is and has no lumps. The heat helps that and it really isn't an issue if you pay attention. You have to try it!

I have also wanted to try it, but have no clue why I've been so afraid to do it! It just seems like I'm going to mess it up as I make it and it won't turn out right, just as the original poster stated. Hey, I say we do this together and conquer this silly fear. I'm going to try it on Saturday and post a pic, anyone else in? Lol, don't laugh too hard at me if it turns out weird. But at least I tried it! Happy Baking

This so funny!! I am the total opposit! I was all for trying MMF for the first time but have yet to try Fondant homemade or store bought!
MMF is my best friend...to me it sounds like you have made MMF and found it too messy that's why you don't like it? How did you make it? Stove? Microwave?

Momma, if you are that in love with MMF, I'm telling you, you will swoon over MFF. I promise! Try it just one time..... icon_smile.gif

Well, I had the same problem before with Satin Ice. Everytime that I tried to cover the cake it cracks... I try to rub shortening on it but it takes to long to fix and still does not look good. I got a new brand from Decopac and I'm very pleased. I hadn't experience any problems. No MFF... I like practical things, you got to be productive on the kitchen... why spend time making something when you have a quality and easy product available? call me lazy, but it is my theme! icon_wink.gif

My MFF just wouldn't turn out elastic enough so, after reading about it on here, I tracked down a place where I could find Albert Uster's fondant (Massa Grishuna I think it's called in the States) where I live and I'll never go back! It's a dream to work with and so far I haven't had any elephant skin or cracking. The imperfections on my cakes are now only due to my mistakes, not fondant problems.

I've never worked with the other brands of store-made, but this works really, really well for me!
