I have been using the butlers. It comes in larger bottles, I guess that's why. Anyhow it hardly has any smell or flavor as far as I can tell. What is the best brand to get?

Loucinda recently posted about this, but I can't find her post. I checked out her info, though icon_lol.gif . Cooks Illustrated did a blind taste test on vanilla in 2005 - and the second-highest rating was given to CVS brand imitation vanilla!! CVS is a huge pharmacy chain, and the vanilla is cheap!! It does come in clear, too. Cooks Illustrated is a reputable source - I trust their testing and am off to try to find some thumbs_up.gif

I have used the CVS brand vanilla and I like it the best, but I do not like real vanilla because all I can taste is the alcohol in it, not the vanilla. The walmart imitation vanilla is good too, but I have not seen that in clear. Hope you find your favorite!

My question is - where do you find Watkins?

Can you buy it in a store or does it have to be purchased though a door to door kind of sales person - kind of like Avon? I remember years ago and I mean years - when my aunt would buy stuff from the Watkins man - like the tall bottles of colored flavoirng to make kool aid.

Wadkins is sold like Avon....Through a rep...Find someone in your area and get a booklet of their products.

I DEFINITELY agree with Cana...Dominican Clear Vanilla is unbelieavble. But I'll try CVS....I just don't see paying $70 for Watkins...there has to be a good tasting vanilla for cheaper. Good question, though....

I recently found happy home flavoring comes in a 7 ounce bottle and is wonderful they all kinds of flavors you can buy online at http://www.southernflavoring.com/ or check with your local churches they often use the flavoring as a fundraiser for the church here in the south I rarely pay over three dollars for it .

I was using Nielsen-Massey, but I accidentally ordered a bottle of Lorann's Gourmet Vanilla flavoring for chocolate (double stregnth) thinking it was pure vanilla extract icon_rolleyes.gif I used it on a few batches of frosting and cakes as well & decided this was my favorite. It worked fabulously-no overpowering or harsh flavors. I just went to look at the bottle and realized it was flavoring for chocolate, not extract but the stuff works great, lol!

our walmart is in the process of closing up and moving to a super walmart in a nearby town so i doubt i'll find anything useful there.. their even clearancing out alot of cake decorating supplies. one employee told me that everything red marked will not be carried over to the new store icon_sad.gif that just leaves Joannes fabric store for cake supplies for me now which happens to be less then a block away from the location of the new super walmart i just mentioned.
