Ok, been having problems competing w/all 6 of our local wal-marts AND many bakeries!!! There just wasn't anyway I could do a sheet type cake for the price of wal-mart nor do I want to....someone just posted a thread about this!!

Anyway....people keep asking me if I do 'shaped (3D)' cakes. I show/tell them about my Care Bear cakes and beach ball cake (both in album)....and have gotten several orders now!! I'm doing a 'pig' cake this friday, a block baby shower cake next week, a veggie tales cake in mid sept., and maybe darth vader at end of sept!!!! All are/will be 3D type cakes!!!!

This is going to take a lot of practice and quite a few trial run cakes, but I'm just excited to finally find something people want that noone else here will do!!!

Congratulations! Do you have a good portfolio built up? That is definitely handy to have!

I'm working on the portfolio....but I do send/show them pics of the cakes I've done so far. I also show them pics of cakes w/thier 'theme' or description and let them know I can do something 'similar' to this. And explain what part of the cake I can do and what I can't do. Then we go from there!!! So far everyone has been understandable and have worked w/me.

Also, on these first few I'm pricing them ~$10-$15 less. than I should, just to get a few more cakes under my belt!!!

GOOD BUSINESS TACTIC---give them what others can't!! Pretty soon it won't matter what the other stores can give them-word of mouth will soon spread! Congratulations!!

I think your cakes look great! If they taste as good as they look, you shouldn't have any problems getting repeat business! Good luck.

Congrats on your orders, your cakes are pretty.

I'm the only one in my area that do 3D and character cakes. The bakeries here won't do them, too time consuming.
