I am doing a tiny wedding cake for a friend. She gave me this picture of what she wants but I can't tell if it's all royal icing or ar the large scrolls fondant. Can I put that much black on a white cake and not have it blead? Also am I better to do this over fondant or bc? Sorry for all the questions but I am at a loss on this one. Thanks in advance to whom ever can help.

Those large/fat scrolls look like fondant, most definitely. The rest in royal. I would do this on a fondant cake, personally (but I prefer fondant icon_smile.gif)

Tara hit it just right, I am sure. And I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole unless it was on a fondant covered cake! Awesome cake, I have seen it many times. icon_smile.gif

Looks like it could be done with either Sugarveil or fondant and royal icing. Either way, I would definitely use fondant as opposed to buttercream.

This is a gorgeous cake! I'd say it was sugarveil piped onto a non-stick surface like a silicone mat or parchment and placed on the cake after it dried. The fine lines could have been piped directly on after the larger elements were placed. Anyhow, that's how I would tackle getting this look.

I love it also. In my pics is one kinda similar that I did for my first wedding cake. I did fondant piped in all royal icing, worked well. I agree with others that the larger pieces look like fondant. Good luck!

I agree the larger pieces look like fondant too but I don't see why you couldn't get the same look by piping it boldly in royal.

I'd do it on a white fondant base as well.

That's some fun tiny piping in there! Wow! Gorgeous.

Royal icing using different size tips, and the webbing is actually string work and piping.

Try contacting The Cake Girls.

It could even be achieved using an edible marker or with a narrow paintbrush and color/everclear(or alcohol of your choosing) with royal or fondant outlines
