How To Give The Appearance Of Pencil Writing...

i'm looking for inspiration of how to make writing look like it was done in pencil?
i'm making a book cake for a teacher who is retiring and i would like it to look as though the writing on the cake was done in pencil as that what the kids would be using. the only thing i can think of if grey royal icing but grey isn't always the most attractive of colours especially in a decent amount of writing so wondered whether any of you had any ideas of another way to do it?
thanks in advance!
If you want it to look like pencil, you will need to use gray. Maybe just don't do it as dark. Or you could make it like a colored pencil.
You need to use a light/medium shade of grey, and a small tip. You could also make a fondant pencil to lay on the book/page to add to the illusion
I would do a dark gray icing and write the letters a little less than perfect (you know, like kids would).

LOL, in other words, the way my writing always looks on cake!
