I am wondering if any of you are from Ontario Canada and running a home based business. I would like to be able to start advertising my cakes a little more and am starting to get more outside orders in. However I am worried about health and safety issues. I have tried to do some research but can't seem to find much info on small businesses.

Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Julie

First calls should be to the local Environmental Health Dept and your town/city business licencing office. They will be able to tell you what your local laws are. You may have to be persistent, because people don't always know what the regulations are for home-based businesses.

In Calgary we have to have a separate commercial kitchen in order to bake legally. I recently got mine licenced and I have to say that finding out the requirements, running around for permits, inspections etc was harder than actually setting up the kitchen!
