So, since all of you spend so much time on here and now know so many awesome decorators, If you had to order your wedding cake today who would make it and what would it look like? I am actually trying to come up with what I want for our retaking of our vows and I know who but I cannot decide what I want it to look like. I never had a real wedding or wedding cake so this is my chance to have what I have allways wanted (I just dont knwo what that is lol).

I would want tonedna to do my wedding cake if I had a do-over. I would either go very classy all white, or black and white, or totally crazy with bright colors and topsy turvy. Wow I bet that was of no help at all huh! icon_confused.gif

This is my current favorite, but there are so many more I love. http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1401411.html It just so depends on what your tastes are, if youv'e had a wedding cake in the past, etc. My tastes seem to change month by month - so ask me next month, I'll give you another pic. What I like now will change by then.

I did not get to pick out the cake for my wedding, my mother did it for me and i hated it, the colors were wrong and I disliked the taste, so now 5 years later my husband and i are planning our anniversary and i get to make my dream cake, only i am so busy with cakes for my clients i have no idea what i want to make. I am thinking of an oval cake with ivory fondant and red gumpaste roses cascading down.

Carrie Biggers of Carrie's Cakes in Sandy, Utah did my cake. It was my dream cake. Delicious and beautiful. My only let down was the color was TOTALLY off. Supposed to be wedgewood blue (close to periwinkle) but was a very (VERY) pale baby blue. I however didn't care, I got MARRIED and ate delicious cake. Nothing else mattered. icon_smile.gif (As a side note, it was 3 tiers with 6 satellites on the bottom all covered in blue fondant with a white "lace" fondant trim. )

This makes me laugh, because I LOVED my wedding cake when I got married 18 yrs ago, but now I would do something completely different.

I love a really simple fondant covered cake with flowers and almost nothing else but the border

I'm with bohnlo, though, I LOVE tonedna's cakes icon_biggrin.gif

I'm sitting here laughing because I have NO IDEA what my wedding cake looked or tasted like. It was probably the "standard issue" wedding cake in 1977--white on white, I guess--from the restaurant in which we had our reception. I don't remember how many tiers or the type of flowers, but I'd guess roses, even though I hate roses. To my recollection, ALL wedding cakes I saw at the time were white on white. Not even chocolate anything.
When I get home, I'll have to go look at our wedding album. If I were to get married today, my cake would be chocolate inside and out, topsy turvy, sweet and colorful. Maybe with honkin' big sunflowers. NOT traditional because I had that in '77!

Depends on your colors, but I love the chocolate and either pink, blue, or turquoise. I would alternate the tier colors.

Mine would look like someone else did it, because that's exactly what it would be.

Something art deco, which is my all-time favorite art style, probably very Fred and Adele Astaire looking.

Who would do it? Either Ron Ben-Israel (his banana cake is Da Bomb) or Colette Peters.

Were I to go old-school traditional, there would be nobody else but Toba Garrett.

Funny...I looked at my wedding pics this morning because I couldn't remember what my cake looked like (almost 30 years ago, and not very impressive, lol). I still have my topper and will be making my cake for our 30th anniversary...I think ivory stacked square tiers with calla lillies and simple pearl borders (my first cake had traditional 3 round tiers w/columns and roses all over the tops. I LOVE Tonedna's cakes...

i love tonedna's cakes too! icon_smile.gif

i would have chocolate cake- it was too expensive for us when we got married. we just had pound cake and frosting. icon_sad.gif i actually secretly really love it, after it's been refrigerated. i would have a chocolate cake with a deliciously buttery SMBC and maybe i'd throw in some tart raspberry filling since that's my fav too. i still might have a vanilla layer with bavarian cream for my non- chocoholic friends! icon_smile.gif

great post idea!

What a great thread! It reminded me that I can't remember what my wedding cake looked like 26 years ago! I do remember it tasted fabulous, and some friends gave us a handblown glass topper that was not our taste at all. We used it and I hated it. Oh well, I've been divorced for two years now, I'm pretty sure I will never get married again cuz I"m lovin' my life right now. BUT, I guess my dream cake would be done by Bronwen Weber~

I too would want Edna to make my cake...mine would be a 5 tier square...(tiffany box style) Tiffany blue with chocolate bows. My flavors would be 3 chocolate tiers with ganache filling....1 tier vanilla with vanilla bean filling and another tier coconut with coconut cream filling.

I was married 8 years ago and my cake was a gift. I remember the lady asking me what I want and I said I didnt care. All I knew was I wanted daisies and 2 satellite cakes on the sides. So I got a 3 tiered cake with cornelli lace on the floating cake stand (rounds) with daisies and satellite rounds on the sides. IT was pretty. If I could do a cake now I would do something stacked and black and white. (Kinda like the cakes Buddy did for the brides magazine) Maybe for an anniversary I can get something like that done. I also love tonednas cakes!!

leahs made my wedding cake in 2005! It was GORGEOUS ... and tasted great! My family still raves about it to this day!

Three tiers (bottom chocolate, middle lemon, top spice) covered in her special summer buttercream. The cake was inspired by my wedding dress and was topped with fresh flowers to match my bouquet.

LOVED IT!!!!

HEHEHE I finally did a post that people actually like! lol. I was not asking for my benefit it was just that since I have been thinking about it I wondered what other people in the cake world would do. You all are cracking me up. I think you should post pics of those original cakes so we can have even more fun with the thread. KEEP THEM COMMIN!

Toneda- You would be VERY busy!

At this point I would use my buddy Caroline Lawrence from Excelsior Missouri (I acutally booked her allready and it is 4 years away lol) I dont think she is on CC but she is on Sugarcraft all of the time. ANYway, I know that her chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ganache would have to be at least one tier (She made a small heart shaped cake for my last anniversary and it was soooo amazing my sister in law had her make it for her wedding last year) but I think I would also have to have a couple of other flavors on the other tiers. I think it has to be coverd in Fonderific fondant (buttercream) and probably octagon or square or those real tall tiers (I think they are called double barrel??) . I need to think on the colors more........... thumbs_up.gif

I didn't have a wedding cake.. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I had a very small ceremony (just our parent, siblings and very closest friends). I want us to renew our vows in the next few years so that I can put on my beautiful dress (the only costly part of my wedding) and have that PERFECT cake. I would want something like this:

or the cherry blossom one on this page:

I hope that one day we can renew our vows and i can have the wedding that we couldn't afford then.... icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I would LOVE to have a cake something like one of these:

I love the cherry blossom cake...

I finally found the wedding album. The cake was prettier than I remembered, but very traditional. I was wrong about the color, though. It was white with salmon/peach-colored roses.
The topper was a cheesey plastic thing. AND it was crooked! When I saw the picture I remembered that we saved the top tier and threw it out on our first anniversary because of freezer burn. The topper soaked up so much grease that we threw that out, too.
The funniest part about the pictures was the wedding/disco tuxes on the guys. BROWN tuxes with salmon shirts! What were we thinking?!!! If someone would tell me how to post photos here, I'd appreciate it. Last time I tried to post a photo in a forum, I had so much trouble that I just gave up.

I didn't have a wedding , I vaguely remember something about going to the court house and signing some papers... But I was 15 years old and that was 23 years ago... Hahhahahhah

But the first cake I remember Oohing and Awing about was my Mom's wedding to my Step father .. I was 5 and it was 1977 and here is the picture..Take a trip back in time with me....... ( cue: Cat Stevens , Peace Train)

For that time it was cutting edge, Petal shaped tiers, crystal pillars, Blue bells and daisies.. Oh the Wow factor.. ahhahah

And don't miss the top of the line baby blue tux with the extra large black lapels... Yeah Groovy...

I think I will recreate it some day... icon_lol.gificon_wink.gif

Man these cake are all so Swagadelic baby (chanelling Austin Powers). I am cracking up more with the dresses and tux choices than anything. I used to manages a Tuxedo shop and we had the mint green ones as our try on pieces. I wonder what people will say about our hair, clothes and cake choices in 20 years icon_confused.gif

Oh talk about dresses ... My mom made every dress in her wedding party... Her bridal dress , Brides maid dress, Flower girls dresses. I will have to find those pics but they were similar to her yellow one in the other pic only they were blue to match the Tuxes...
