I missed the wedding completely....I was planning everything for next saturday. I have started on the flower decorations, but honestly thought the wedding was next weekend.
I was making this for an old co-worker. We have only talked a few times about the cake, but her original email says next Saturday's date. I got a message today saying she didn't have a cake at her wedding yesterday!?! I am completely sick over this. I consider myself an organized person, I keep a decent calendar, I don't know how this happened!!!
If her email said next Saturdays date then that is the date she said she needed the cake... Doesn't make much sense ...
Maybe she couldn't wait to get married.
Bwahahahahah!!!!!
I would forward her the email that has next Saturday's date on it and ask HER what happened.
Oh I'm sick with you. That is my biggest fear that I would miss someones wedding or any cake in general. I feel for you. I would send her a copy of the email that she sent you and tell her that you are so sorry but that is the date you were going by. I know that its not much but do you think you can make a smaller version so she can take pictures at least? Or offer her a cake for her anniversary.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm sure you're upset over this. Like the others said, you should send her a copy of the email with the date that she quoted you. I came close once and discovered I had a 3 tiered wedding for the next day. Man, I was scrambling.
I had nightmares like that too, where a month before the event you have these dreams where you wake up, you go out with your family, and you get a call from a screaming person asking where the cake is, and if you are on your way. I am sooooooooo there with you, I cannot believe that happened, thank God for e-mails and order sheets, this is not your fault. Stay strong, express your sympathy, but again you are not at fault for this. I wish you the best.
Yikes! I feel bad for you too. Really though if she put next saturdays' date then how are you suppose to know any different? I know it doesn't make you feel much better, but i think this is her error.
That is a nightmare!
I get you feel bad...but...if she put the wrong date in the e-mail, how is it your fault? I would definetly forward the e-mail she sent you so she could see the date she said.
I'm confused. She emailed you asking where her cake was teh day after the wedding??
Why in the world wouldn't she have called from the reception
I would definitely forward the copy of the original email with next week's date on it.
I had something like this happen to me for a baptism cake. Client emails me the date. We work out all the details. Couple weeks later she sends me another email checking to see how things are going. I tell her everything is fine, especially since her cake is due next week. Turns out she changed the date of the baptism and forgot to tell me! She now needs the cake in 2 days!
It worked out and I got the cake done. But maybe this is what happened with your bride.

Oh, I can imagine how sick you feel over this. I know I would. Came close to happening to me a month or so ago. bride calls on Thursday to confirm her cake on Saturday (2 days later) and I pretty much said, "Cake? What cake?" (all turned out well and thank goodness she called to confirm!)
But I agree with the others. Send her the email, in the spirit of "I'm so sorry this happened, but my records show it was next week based on this email."
I think a phone conversation on a cake is very important! Emails should not be the only way of conversation. She should have called you that day as soon as she found out she didnt have a cake!
My own brother also changed his wedding date to a week earlier and didn't think to tell the rest of us. We already had plane tickets to go see family in California that were bought for that weekend and couldn't be switched when the invitation arrived in the mail a month before the wedding. Since none of us were in the wedding, we went to California instead. Thankfully, that was before I started doing cakes and I wasn't doing his!
Good case for telling your brides to confirm a week before the wedding and I'm thinking that from now on I'll get up with my brides two weeks out just to make sure. My nerves would be shot if this happened to me.
Oh, gosh, how very sad.
I would definitely send her a copy of the e-mail that shows the incorrect date.
It sounds like she wasn't overly concerned about the cake from the beginning, but I would think that confirming it wuld have been on her final checklist?
