I have a cake due this evening and I can't get the bulging to go away!! It is a 2 tiered with a sugar cookie in the middle.

I leveled the cakes last night, put the sugar cookie in the middle, put a crumb coat on it, and placed in the fridge all night. This morning I put the icing on and it is bulging so bad!! I scraped off the icing and reapplied the icing, but i STILL can't get the bulging to go away...PLEASE give me some advice!

TIA!

Did you fill it? If so, did you create a dam? That is usually what causes the bulges.

I created a dam, filled with buttercream, placed the cookie, put another layer of buttercream, then placed the top cake layer on. What else should I do/done?!

Was your BC VERY stiff? If the BC is too thin, it'll ooze it's way out. Sharon (Sugarshack) stiffens hers till she can literally pick it up in her hand and stuff it into the piping bag to pipe the dam. I've started using VERY stiff BC for my dam, and have found that it works well to stop the bulge. HTH

Btw, do you let your cake settle for atleast several hours after filling? You can also place a book on top and let it rest for about 2 hours.
