Did you know .......?

That if you pick up the wrong container and use cream of tartar instead of baking powder that your cupcakes won't rise and will come out of the oven like little round dough balls? If I'd baked them another 5 minutes, I could have had 2 dozen golf balls!

I'll give it another try this weekend! icon_redface.gif

Don't feel bad. I did something similar Tuesday messing up by using baking soda instead of powder. They didn't have the nice domes I usually get and just looked strange. I tasted one and it was salty! I knew right then I must have used soda on accident.

I was so mad at me because these were not only a scratch cake, but I went all out and was making champagne and strawberry cupcakes! icon_cry.gif Spent 7 whole dollars on champagne icon_wink.gif ; even used fresh strawberries, not an oil flavoring. LIke I said ... went all out!

I was so looking forward to having one of these! (well ..... having one that tasted good! icon_lol.gif )

Oh my.... that is too funny!

Reminds me of the time I was staying at a friends place & decided to make chocolate chip cookies. Little did I know they had 2 huge jars... one of sugar and the other of salt. Man, were those some nasty cookies!

Sorry Debi... Champagne & Strawberries I bet those would have been YUMMMEEEEE!

You could always save them , make one of those potato launch guns and use them to shoot cake Muggles.. I hate to see them go to total waste ! Hahhahahahh

My Mom was making 4 pumpkin pies last Thanksgiving and forgot the sugar all together ( with a little help from 2 friends, Corona & Lime) She didn't realize untill we were cutting and serving , it was so funny watching people try to eat it cause they didn't want to hurt her feelings by saying it was bad! It was Hilarious!

You're makin' me nervous now! I've got my first batch of a) cupcakes from scratch, b) filled cupcakes, and c) Bavarian cream to make this weekend for a trial run.

Gonna triple-check every last thing I pick up to use, now! ESPECIALLY for the cream....

Actually, a CC'er mentioned this as one of their cupcake flavors and I thought it sounded SO good! A CC inspiration!

Indydebi - the champagne goes in the cupcakes! No wonder you grabbed the wrong thing. That's one of the occupational hazards of all these recipes with a kick!

Champagne and strawberry cupcakes... sounds yummy!!

It does stink when you waste all of those ingredients. I went through a time where I kept forgetting to add the eggs to my batter. Most of the time I would remember before the cake got in the oven, but I have forgotten a few times and had to throw the cake away. Now when I bake, I keep telling myself, "don't forget the eggs, don't forget the eggs."

Did you make them again? How were they?

Not yet. Had a full day yesterday and a wedding cake to do today. Sometimes this weekend.

...Then there was the time my friend wanted to make cookies to send to our buddy in the first Gulf War. I went to her house to help her, and she had already made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and wanted me to taste one.

icon_eek.gif <<<my reaction.

Her response: "Well, I didn't have any vanilla, so I just left it out."

The worst part was, she still wanted to send them icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif . I eventually talked her out of it and we started over.

Just finished a new batch WITH baking powder. Oh yeah, THATS what a cupcake is suppose to look like! icon_lol.gif I like 'em .... took some to my biz neighbors, so I'm waiting for them to let me know what they think.

Took a great pic that I'll upload when daughter gets back with the camera tonight.....4 on a plate surrounded by strawberries, with the bottle of champagne and 2 champagne glasses in the background.

Hubby doesn't eat cake. And he can't take a hint.

True story: Our daughter is gone for the night. He's in the family room, watching TV, with a fire going in the fireplace. I take a shower, sash-shay downstairs, stand in front of the fireplace, drop my towel, and he says ......

"MOVE!!! I can't see the fire!!!!!!!!!" icon_eek.gif

I've got one ... Many, many years ago, my newlywed Aunt Alice was making buns for dinner (this must have been back in the late 30s/early 40s). Earlier, Grandma had been at their apt. to help Alice with some decorating, using Plaster of Paris to patch the walls.

Well, you guessed it. Aunt Alice grabbed the PoP instead of the Baking Soda. The buns were so hard, the dog played with them for weeks! icon_lol.gif

When I was a teenager I used to get grounded a lot. No TV, friends, etc. So I would bake. Come to think of it maybe that's why I got grounded a lot! icon_confused.gificon_lol.gif Anyhoo, one time I made some Choc.Chip cookies and accidentally put 1 cup of salt in instead of sugar! Yuuuckeee! But my one sister 7 yrs my junior, loved them! Go figure! icon_rolleyes.gif
