Is there a way to make fondant look like dark chocolate.
Also is there a recipe to make chocolate fondant - I mean the dark chocolate flavor or color.
TIA
Actually I intend to try making a bag like this

Replace some of the powdered sugar with cocoa powder. I usually replace 1 cup of powdered sugar with 3/4 cup of cocoa powder.
Different cocoa powders will give different results. Hershey's special dark will make fondant that's almost black. Here's an example: http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1220586
On this one I used Guittard Cocoa Rouge (my favorite) and then painted over it with red gel thinned with vodka http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1365247&sub=1365251 but it was a medium brown before I started painting it.
Americolor makes a chocolate brown color but of course it won't taste like chocolate.
If you have time to order, SatinIce makes Dark/Chocolate Fondant that tastes really good. Actually, you'll probably have to mix in some white because it's pretty dark.
Tx Texas_Rose ;- Cud u please advise which is the recipe you used for fondant in which u substituted sugar with cocoa powder.
I haven't tried making regular fondant except for MMF . Wud teh same proportion apply to MMF.
If not MMF wats the recipe u recommend for regular fondant that tastes good?
Loved ur cakes, ur too good
TIA
marccrad - are there any retail stores that sell satin ice or do I have to shop for it online ?
TIA
Oh, sorry...I should have specified that I was using MMF. I use PegW's recipe from whatscookingamerica.com which takes 2 lbs powdered sugar, 1 lb mini marshmallows, 1/4 cup water and then crisco for greasing hands and work surface.
Karenreg,
I don't think there are any chain stores that sell it but some specialty cake shops carry it, I'd check around. I don't know where you are located but there are several here in the DC area. I usually buy it online - even with the shipping cost it's cheaper than the markup those small stores have to charge. However, if I need something TODAY - off to Fran's I go!!! HTH

What a coincidence I too make MMF using the recipe on whatscookingamerica.com
Tx a lot, now I guess that makes my life easy. Don't need to worry about how it will turn out.
