You can use a bismark* tip
An apple corer - or you can cut a small cone in the cupcake going as deep as you need but not all the way to the buttom.

I haven't ever "prepped" my cupcakes, only because when I first started dong it, I didn't know you were supposed to. I just get a big tip (?? #7, #10 ??) and I just plunge it in the top of the cupcake. When it starts to poof a little, I pull it out. I've never had a problem doing it this way. I have also plunged it in the bottom of the cupcake. Good Luck!

Don't fret, Dearie, you're not "supposed to." There's no rule about that, and if there is, someone forgot to tell Hostess and TastyKakes about it. They use injector nozzles, like you use your piping tip.
If that's what you're comfortable with, then keep doing it. Why do extra work when you don't have to, right?
