I have come across a lot of recipe books on how to make cakes with Cake Mixes with a few more ingredients added to it. I came across a book called Cake Mix Doctor By anne byrn .I noticed she has 2 books ,which of these is better( 1995 or 2009 Edition) .Also is there any other book available that you would recommend.

I also came across a book called Cake Mix bible but it has a lot of different cake mixes that the book recommends which I've not seen often in grocery stores whereas the Cake Mix Doctor has most of her cakes made with cake mixes easily available in the cake mix aisle in stores.

Also if I need to make cakes from scratch which recipe book wud you recommend.

Any help in this regard is appreciated.

TIA

If you want to make scratch cakes, I would recomend starting out with the Betty Crocker Big Red cookbook. I think every house should have a cookbook like that one anyway, because of the other recipes in it, but the Starlight Yellow Cake in the Betty Crocker Big Red cookbook has been getting rave reviews in my house.

Yes, that's the one. And no, it's not a cookbook dedicated to nothing but cakes. It's a general cookbook that has a nice section on cakes and pastries. My family loves all the recipes we've made from this cookbook, which range from cakes to whipped cream to roasts to soups. It also has a very nice section on substitutions in recipes which has been VERY handy when I've been going, "...I don't have that and can't find it anywhere."

It doesn't have to be a cookbook about nothing but cakes to be a good cookbook to use for its cake recipes, you know.
