hey everyone. I have a client who has a request for a cake and i am drawing a blank on this one so i was hoping someone could help me with ideas! any and all would be greatly appreciated.

so here's what he wants. it would be a cake for his birthday and his sister's birthday, they decided to have a joint cake. They want it half pink and half blue. He wants a hockey theme she wants a princess theme and all girly. I did suggest having 2 cakes rather then 1 but they are dead set in having this monster 5 tier showpiece for their party.
I am really drawing a blank on how this would look and i just can't get past that it might look really tacky. If anyone can help me with the idea process it would be welcomed with open arms... thanks so so much in advance.

you could cover the cakes in blue an pink fondant (half an half) and alternate the colours as you stack them, and do princess hockey players against prince players, just a thought

good luck with it

Think I'd just split it down the middle and make one entire side from top to bottom blue and white with maybe a fondant rink enclosure around his half of the first tier, some hockey players skating on the other tier edges and a puck with Happy Birthday John (as in Doe) on the top of his side. Do her side in pink with maybe a silver star wand on one tier edge, some pearls, maybe some feather boa around the bottom and a crown on the top of her side. It would look crazy but I don't know if she's going to want her princesses playing hockey with his guys. Unless you want to put pink on his hockey players... That might be fun... Depending on the tier sizes, you might be able to make the top tier two small cakes instead of one normal size tier, like cupcake size, for their crown and puck... Just a thought...

Hi....

If it's five tier......Alternate the tiers with the pink and blue.....maybe make the base half pink, half blue.....The rest alternate....
Put a hockey stick made out of fondant on the blue side
On the pink side put a bunch of pretty flowers T

The next tier make it blue and put a hockey puck on it made from fondant, and write the team he likes in BC....

The next tier...pink with little gumpaste fairies on it....

Next tier......blue with a hockey jersey made from fondant....

Top tier....pink with a crown and more flowers

Well....there is my suggestion....Hope that doesn't sound gaudy or silly......

Seeing as how they are siblings...I would put a little sibling rivalry into this cake. I would do a half pink half blue cake. Either one side pink and the backside blue or better yet I would do the bottom two tiers blue and fade it quickly into the top 3 being pink. I would have the hockey players on the bottom and then a couple of them crawling up onto the pink tiers. On hers I would have a little princess looking into the mirror on one side and then one princess dumping something down on one of the hockey players coming up the cake tiers.

So basically...bottom tier...all him...make the hockey players doing their thing around the bottom of it. Very manly. Top tier her princess stuff...all her. Very girly. The closer you get to the center of the cake the more "sibling rivalry" you see.....making the top and bottom start interacting more. I would worry about the top just because I wouldnt know who should have that and you wouldnt want it to look too weddingish since they are siblings.

RiLinNa's suggestion is fabulous! I hope I can remember it if a situtation like this ever arises for me. I can just see it! It would be so great. Best of luck alliebear!

If you're up for fondant figures, you could have a princess & a hockey player back to back (maybe arms crossed) on the very top. Or the princess pushing the hockey player off the side.

If you don't want it too over the top & complicated you could just change up the borders for each tier & blend the fondant or buttercream to be pink & blue but kinda marbled in the middle split it down the middle. Each tier could have fondant cut outs (castles/ hockey pucks; wands/ hockey sticks; frogs/masks; mini stars/ jerseys, etc).

You can always go elaborate & sculpt figures. Bruise up the hockey players, missing teeth, fighting, etc. You could have a princess "ruling" the roost or a fairy looking down making it look like she's casting a spell on the players causing them to fight.

Don't forget the board. Good girly boa on 1/2 the board/ gumpaste net around the other 1/2. Think I would do these on the opposite sex of the cake---put the boa on the boy's side & the net on the girl's side, playing up the rivalry.

RiLinNa's idea is cute too.

I would maybe do the top tiers pink. Top one probably a castle giving you the fairy theme going down to the blue adding some white like the castle is on top of a snow mountain..then adding Hockey players in the bottom tier..

I am not sure what size your tiers are...but I would probably do the bottom 2 tiers with blue and decorate with hockey stuff on the sides.

I would do the top 3 tiers in pink...maybe to look like a princess castle. You could do little windows and butterflies and flowers with a crown on top.

I would use various shades of pinks and blues so it does not look like a baby shower cake.

Good luck with your design!
