I think they just want people to keep buy their $80- $90 cartrideges instead of finding free images on the web. lol
Ohhhhh I so want one and was hoping they would be out in time for our hols to the US at Easter, guess I am just going to have to pay the shipping as I HAVE to have one!!!!
WTH! am I doing wrong? I have the Cricut Expression, I watched Linda's DVD & even used my darn pasta machine & I cant get this Cricut to do what I want it to do. Ok I must say I didn't have the deep cutting blade at first so I figured that was the problem, but I have that now too & it was still a mess. I almost bounced that very expensive machine off my kitchen walls I'm so frustrated. I cant get it right. I'm gonna go buy some tylose tonight & mix it with my fondant & not use my gumpaste & see how that works. Help me please someone, I'm still making flex payments on this machine and hating I bought it now. How dry does the gumpaste or fondant need to be before you try to cut on it? and how thin should it be? I feel like such a loser when I see everyone else's cricut work and is anyone else having problems using it? Thanks for any help.
Did you ever get this to work?

Hello...i live in Orlando & besides Joanns & Michaels, there are really no stores that sell the Cricut. Now, there are 2 stores in Orange City, which is about 30mins from downtown Orlando...hope this helps.
BTW, I had some great success with my Cricut last night.
DH blade @ 5
Speed 3
Pressure 2
Wilton fondant with tylose
Fondant rolled to a 4 on my Atlas pasta machine
Small amt shortening on the mat
Small amt shortening smeared on top of the fondant
Let fondant sit for 10 min.
No tears, no jagged edges
I may also try placing the fondant (on the mat) in the freezer for several min as suggested either here or another post.
Hello...could you tell how much tylose you used in your fondant. I experimented & may have used too much tylose because my cuts were extremely ragged & when i peeled the fondant off the mat, it just crumbled. Also, i'll have to try smearing some shortening on top of the fondant. Thanks for any advice!!
Want us to bring you one if the Orlando Cricut class comes together?
That would be FANTASTIC If there is a class coming to Orlando, i would love any information!!
do you need to use the deeper cut blade or can you use the blade that came with cricut?
Have been playing with our new Cricut and some software that basically eliminates the need for the cartridges. Just design and cut the fondant, it's wonderful especially when you can simply scan an image and then cut the fondant. Great for company logos.
See the Cricut Cake on Monday March 1, on TLC as Carrie Biggers uses a Cricut Cake while on Norm Davis's team during an Ultimate Cake Off Challenge.
We hope to have a demo and maybe one to give away on our next CakeCruise.

I am getting my cricut Friday and can't wait to try it..... All these tips will be very helpful!!!
If you didn't already have the Cricut, would you wait for the Cricut Cake?
I really want to buy one. In Australia the prices are SOOOOO much higher then in America (approx. $650.00 for the Expression). When I do buy a Cricut, I am tempted to buy it in America and have it shipped over here!

Expressions have been on special over here for US$249.00, so after the exchange rate and the lowest cost surface mail (if you can wait that long!) you should come out well ahead. The Cake will not likely have its price dropped for a while because of the demand being generated but if you plan on using it all the time with fondant or gum paste then the Cake is worth the extra money and the wait. If it is only something you want to do now and then, go with the Expression and the great advice on this forum.
Where can I get it for $249.00. Thanks
Joanne's have had a special for a couple of weeks that ended last weekend. Also had 40% off all Cricut accessories, by the end, their selves were bare!

I got to meet Linda Mcclure today...she is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met! She showed me many tips for using my cricut machine (I have been struggling with it and planned a trip to Vidalia just to meet her). I think this is one of the best "caking" products out there and Linda has created a way of using it that is second to none! I just can't say enough about how amazing my visit with her was! She was on CC for a while but said she was obviously "spanked and put into time out" because her account was closed down. I have no idea what happened but I know that she is definately someone I admire for her knowledge and her willingness to share that knowledge!
I'd suggest getting a reg. cricut now...it's been used for a while now and works. Yes, the cake will work, but it's not necessary. It's red and new and the "it" product of PC right now, but not needed. Nope. Just google Linda McClure and buy her DVD.
I recently bought a Cricut Expression for other purpuses that cakes. I thought it over a lot as they are even more expensive over here in Europe. If I already knew then that I could also use it to decorate cakes with it would have been a much easier decision! Wow, all the possibilities.... How I came across this website and topic I don't even remember, but I've spent the last two days reading all the posts. Thank you all so much for sharing!!
I BEEN HAVING A CRICKET MACHINE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS AND I JUST FOUND OUT I CAN USE IT WITH GUM PASTE OR FONDANT.... OMG WOW WOW..... BUT WERE CAN I BUY A MAT THAT DOSENT HAVE THE STICKYNESS TO IT.... cause THE ONE I HAVE HAS THE STICKYNESS FOR THE SRAPBOOKING, FOR THE PAPER TO STICK ON WELL.... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.... ALSO WERE CAN I GET DESIGNS ONLINE TO DOWNLOUD FOR THE CRICKET MACHINE..... PLEASE LET ME KNOW..... PM ME OR E-MAIL ME
thank you!!!!
have a blessed day!
Yessie8372...you do that yourself. Linda shows you how in her DVD's. Also, no need for the cake machine if you already have a traditional cricut.
You can remove the sticky with 190 proof alcohol. Tobias told me about it and works like magic.
I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions I have. I heard that the Original Cricut will not be able to use the Cricut Cake Cartridges, although it will allow you to use the cartridges that are for the original cricut cutters. I am looking into buying one. I am not sure which one though. I do scrapbook so the benfits of the Orignal Cutter may be the way to go, but if I could use the Cricut Expression products with the Cricut Cake then I would think that I would prefer that. Does anyone know if you can use the asseciories i.e. mats, pens, etc. with either machines? And is their any other major diffrences with the Cricut Cake and the Original Cricut besides the fact that it's food safe and what I mentioned about the cartridges?
Hi,
I've some questions about the cricut that I hope someone is able to help me with.
I'm thinking of getting a cricut and bringing it back to my home country (as i'm returning in Jul). However, my country's voltage value is 240V. Is the cricut dual voltage?
Also, my country do not sell cricut or its accessories. If I were to buy the cricut, what will you advise that i stock up on? perhaps the blades?
I've never used the cricut before, so i'm not sure which parts of the cricut will wear and tear, etc.
Lastly, would you advise me to get one, considering my situation where i'll have difficulty getting accessories/ support for the cricut.
Question - I have an expression but I'm watching HSN and dreaming of getting the cake edition. Can I use my original expression for gumpaste/fondant and still have it work on the normal, paper, vinyl, ect? I'd hate to try and use it with gumpaste only to ruin it for use with other materials as I use it quite often.
Any advise would be great.
Thanks!
Can one of those inexpensive cutting mats bought from Bed Bath and Beyond work with the Cricut Expression?

Ae they 12 X 12? If so and they are the same thickness the they should work.
Wow! 39 pages later and I think that I know almost everything that there is to know about using a Cricut for my cakes. Thanks everyone! I am wondering though, have we figured out if the new cake cricut blade will be interchangeable with the old cricut? One poster said yes, another said no.
