I was thrilled for the winner....I thought she was down to earth, humble, but her design was impeccable. I also liked the sugar blown sculpture cake and the Italian top...both were very clever. Not sure about Ryan Hurley, Colette Peter's understudy....I think he was not as great as people had hoped. (He was good, but nothing super extraordinary). The cake diva....what happened there? Her cake flopped (oh well, I guess we all have bad days!!)
it's always fun to see the professionals go at it! I'm definately going to try some modeling with marzipan. I liked the winners cake. I'm interested to know the point difference between the competitors though.
I thought the same thing about the Cake Diva....she seemed a little bit not with it or something. And the cake she did was far inferior to what you see on her website....guess it was just a bad day. But the thing I really didn't get about her was the belt thingy she was wearing....was that a weight lifting belt or a back support belt...hmmm?
I loved Elisa Strauss's (Confetti Cakes) sock monkey cake!!! I would love to try that one on a smaller scale, of course. I thought the one with the spinning top was pretty unique and clever, as well. But I think the right one won....Imagine the business she'll have now!! And she said she only opened shop within the past year....hope she's prepared for the phone to be ringing off the hook!!
I thought Ryan Hurley's cake was great...but not as great as everyone expected it to be b/c of him being Colette's understudy. I really like the theme of it and would love to attempt it as well.
I really enjoyed the show. It was amazing to watch them cover their cakes in fondant in what seem liked a flash. It was interesting to watch the technique used. I did think the Cake Diva was off her game. Her cakes are great. I liked the cakes that placed, I thought all the contestants did a great job, considering the time constraints they were under.
