I have a baptismal cake that I am working on that is due for Saturday...so not in panic mode yet but getting up there.

My AC went *POOF* and the temp indoors is not hotter that outdoors. AC repair man cant make it till Monday and it looks like the humidity is gonna go through the roof for the next few days.

I decided to check on my fondant and it is a soft sticky mess. (I am using Massa)

I dont know what to do...is there a way to make the fondant firmer without using more sugar or refrigeration?

I am afraid that if I refrigerate it that once I am ready to use it it's gonna sweat and then I will be SOL!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for reading

Not much help, but I would definitly see about borrowing a friend or family member's kitchen temporarily! Heat and fondant are so not meant to be together!

If you can find a place that sells Tylose Powder, you can add a little bit to the fondant. Or, a clear gellatin packet will work, as well.

I had that problem last summer. I hate to say it but it's really hard to do fondant when there's no air conditioning, unless maybe you live in the desert. When I made my daughter's birthday cake last summer, my AC was out, it was at least 90 in the house and my fondant was so wet that it just came apart in my hands. I had a dehumidifer running in the house too.

I agree with cdent, see if you can borrow a friend's kitchen.

I think I would consider a small window a/c unit and block the kitchen off.

Loucinda has a good idea. . . even if you return the unit the next day ( ), but I didn't say that!
