So say *i do* in a park and go straight home - no pressies - NO CAKE - no nothing...Our commitment to one another is strong. That's what we're celebrating," she says. Great - i am happy for her - but she still wouldn't be getting any *donated, freebie, sponsored cake off me -

Hmm! Inneresting....thoughts?????
Cheap and nasty - wonder who is donating the wedding gown. icon_rolleyes.gif

Altho if i knew this as an invited guest i would turn up with no pressie and say -
*presents don't maketh the marriage or stregthen your committments to each other* .......................... then howl laughing.

Some brides to be are just getting cheaper and tackier - and you can't blame the economy - it has to be poor breeding.....................surely.

How is that "nerve?" Just because a newspaper does a story on something doesn't mean it endorses it. I've written stories about people who appalled me. They were definitely interesting ... I just didn't happen to agree with them. icon_rolleyes.gif

As my former editor would have said, it's a talker. It got people on here reading, didn't it? That's what a newspaper would look for.

Your right not everything can be blamed on the way the economy is, but if someone doesnt feel the need to have a lavish wedding why are they said to be cheap and tacky and come from poor breeding? Maybe they have other things they are spending their money on. I know some people who opted not have have the large wedding and used that money as a down payment on a house. Some people just have different priorities than others. Who are we to judge?

Not having a lavish wedding is not tacky.

Having a lavish wedding that you can afford and that you spend your own money on is not tacky either.

Having a lavish wedding that you expect the vendors to pay for *IS* tacky.

I saw this exact idea on Oprah in the '80's or '90's, along with others that barter for their wedding costs. I think in this economy it will be more popular.

Wow, you guys are harsh! I can't believe most of you have never heard of this, or so it seems that way. I say give her credit for trying. But my bigger question is... Have any of you EVER made a cake for free? Just to show what you can do? (ie..get your name out there).
