Hi All...

Can somebody please tell me how you get buttercream and fondant to look like silver??? I have tried the luster dust and the silver glaze and it just doesn't look like silver! I need it for a cake next weekend and I was wanting to "practice" this weekend.

Thank you!!

I'll bump but I would try a light grey color for the BC and fondant, and then use the luster dust or glaze.

I usually use the wilton pearl dust, and mix it with a tiny amount of vodka.

The best way is to air brush it.

I have no answer for BC but for fondant I start with white then add just the tinyest amount of black food color. it will be a grey color. Then i dust it with the silver luster dust and voila!. Dont have to go to the bother of painting it and waiting for it to dry.

I mix a very small amount of black to the buttercream to get it to a gray color then mix in luster dust.

So I'm curious..... What did you end up doing? My son is getting married and they would like TINY silver hearts on the cake.... I thought about royal and painting them.... but just silver BC would be better..... Any ideas?

I just check this out. Looks nice, bu they are all NON-EDIBLE. Don't want to use that on BC, maybe paint on accent pieces made of RI or GP, but not anything that will/may be eaten.
