I know most people use piping gel, but I was just wondering.

The pool indent will be fondant covered, by the way.

i personally wouldnt try it. i remember leaving a cup of jello out overnight on the counter once and it was rubbery and shriveled adn a P.I.T.A. to clean out of the bowl... but who knows maybe somone knows a trick to keep it from shriveling. i'd go with the blue piping gel, or melted sugar on wrinkled tin foil.

you would probably not make it like usual. like more water.. then it wouldn,t gel up so hard. try it.. to see.. i think you could..

I'm pretty sure that Jello brand has a recipe for that on their website...

yup, here it is http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/jell-o-dive-on-in-cake-56742.aspx

I don't know why there aren't any pics on their site but here are tons of sampleshttp://images.google.com/images?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=jello%20pool%20cake&sa=N&tab=wi&um=1

You can totally use jello. The trick to it is make the jello jigglers recipe for a stiffer consistency and wait until it just starts to set so you don't get the seepage/leakage that happens if you put it in too soon. icon_biggrin.gif I have a cake photo of this exact thing in my album.

Wow...I really like how it looks, in the video and in madhattercakes' version.

rharris524...the second link didn't work because the word samples got lumped in with the address...I was able to remove it and get to the correct place.

Thank you everyone!

mad hatter cakes...how did you do the water on your pool cake? I checked out the first link posted by rharris524, but I couldn't open the second one.
I am making a golf cake and would like to make the water trap out of jello and I really liked how your water had "ripples" in it.

My pool cake was made with jello but I don't know how will it work with the fondant because you have to refrigerate it so it can set.
This is how I did mine! It was in the beginning of my cake decorating so it took forever!!!!

I did a pool cake over a decade ago and used the blue Jello. I lined an 8 inch circle cake pan with plastic wrap (wrinkling the bottom for the waves texture), mixed the Jello according to package instructions and put it in the refrigerator until set. Then when I was finished with the main portion of the cake, I carved a spot for it, dropped it in and did my last minute decorations... turned out really well. I ended up having a number of decorations in and on the water that held up great too. Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

Do you have to refrigerate it after you put it on the cake? How long will it last before it stars to melt?

You have to refrigerate so the jello finishes to set. Mine was out of the refrigerator for about 3 hours but I couldn't do longer because it had cream cheese icing. Maybe someone can answer if the jello can be out for how long...

I did a cake with blue jello once. I didn't allow it to set enough and my cake had blue streaks running all over. Not to mention a smaller pool. I thought it was OK. Until later on in the day. If I remember correctly, I allowed it to set about 30 minutes and then placed it in the fridge for the reminder of 3 1/2 hours. Even though it ran through the cake it lasted 4 hours out of the fridge to be consumed.
