Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search for "cake boss" here on CC and kept getting posts about the new TLC show.

I have my first big cake order and am actually getting paid enough to invest in something. YAY! I'm wondering if you think Cake Boss Software would be a good choice?

I'd really appreciate your advice. Thanks icon_smile.gif

There are a few posts on this, and must of the reply's that are on it is it is really good. A lot of people said it has helped them price their cakes, and keep their customers information. I was reading on this yesterday, and am making the purchase today. I am just starting out, but I think this will help me for not under charging, and great business invoices to look more professional. It has a 30 day money back guarantee so if you don't like it you could get your investment back.

I couldnt live without it! I love the way it tells me how much Im making on each of item not to mention keeps all my customers in one data base. Plus, their customer service is awesome! I had bought it a year ago and then my daughters dumped water on my laptop. They sent me another copy at no charge for my new computer and even helped me get it running when I was having problems installing it!!
So unless your a genius (reminds me of The Big Band Theory the other night when Penny was trying to sell her daisy hair clips and thought she could stop working until Leondard told her that she would only make $2,000 a year!!) or great at programs like Excel and have the time to create it all, I definetly think its worth it!!

I think Cake Boss is a great cake software program. Go onto their website and look around. Kelley would be happy to answer your questions. She has step-by-step videos on the site that you can watch.

We prefer to handle tech support issues by email or on our private forums at http://cakeboss.rapidboards.com (registration required). If you post your problem here, there is a very good chance I won't see it in a timely manner. And I am likely the only one who can help you. icon_wink.gif So please email me or post on our forums with a problem. Thanks! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks for asking this ?, I was wondering about that myself, I actually have done extensive work myself to see what it actually cost to do each cake, from cake board, to grease, to flavors and foil. But I did this the year before last and prices have changed quite a bit, so I just guess, and raised my prices 50 cents a slice. (plus I have a lot more overhead as I rent a licensed kitchen for 15% of the top.) Does the cake boss go into such detail? I dread doing it again. ( I used receipts, a notebook, pencil and calculator!)

I just want to say how fast Kelley responded to my email when I needed help. She was super fast. I was trying to download the stuff using the windows way when I have vista. After i realized this I did it the right way, and everything downloaded great. It looks like I will be having fun the next couple of days playing with my new cake toy. lol

I watched the tutorial videos for Cake Boss today and I couldn't believe how easy everything breaks down into categories of cost! And recipes, client information and more. I'm buying it for sure. Thanks to all who gave so much information about their experiences. My big cake order cancelled because of my prices (which were standard) so I'll have to find another way to pay for it- but I can tell it will be well worth the investment icon_smile.gif

I was looking into this product as well. I use Quickbooks now and it does work great but I have issues trying to break down the measures since quickbooks only uses decimals. Can I break things down in actual measurements like 1/8 of a teaspoon? And does it do inventory?

I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it were compatible with Mac!

pricing your cakes is just a FRACTION of what cake boss does!!

1. you can store ALL of your recipes, which makes figuring out how much of each thing you use on any particular order

2. you can add an order that's not for a year, and even if YOU forget, Cake Boss doesn't!

3. you can print out invoices for an order, without having to fill in anything else, just click Print, and invoice and out it comes with everything in the correct columns looking professional

4. you can go into reports and see how much your spending and on what for any dates you choose (for isntance, if I want to know how much money I spent between April1,2010 and April 25,2010 I just select the dates, and up comes a report with everything separated into catgegories.

5. you can also do the same as above with customer totals and see who's ordered what and how much of it, and what your profit it.

6. there is a dashboard feature on the new cake boss (LOVE IT) and it shows you on the left side, all of your upcoming orders for the next 7 days (which is nice since I currently have 76 open orders!), and on the right side it shows all the orders that have a balance due (which is nice since sometimes brides have payment due well before I even have to think about preparing their order)

7. when it's time to claim the income on taxes....go into reports and there is one for taxes. choose your dates Jan.1-Dec.31, and up comes a total report with all your tax info, ready to print and send off to the accountant.

There are about 100 additional features as well......not to mention amazing tech support and it's run by people who WANT to hear what you have to say.....I have mentioned add ons that I thought would be a great addition to the program and it now has some of them!!! they definitely take into account the people buying the product.

It is well worth the money they're charging...........and it is SO MUCH MORE than figuring out how much to charge. I would be utterly lost without this program!

I think it depends on how large your operation is and what you need the software to do for you. We bought Cakeboss but ended up uying Bakesmart software a little later. You need to do some research before buying.

Did you get a different software due to having a larger or smaller business?

We got different software because we needed the software to do much, much more than Cakeboss. Bakesmart is an entire POS system with many different modules that we otherwise would have to do manually.
