i made my daughters wedding cake .......which is what led me to this site in the first place......it was a cheesecake wedding cake.....(the pic is under the how do i forum under dlp) and in my photos......she wanted the fondant look.....after many discussions we decided that rolled buttercream was our best bet....so on wed (aug 10th) i started rolling the buttercream out.....i asked my daughter to come help me flip it (note to self.....don't ask the bride for help ) because i was doing the bottom layers which were 14" and it was so large i needed help.....
it went fine....we flipped it and it looked beautiful........ for aprx 20 seconds.......and then disaster........it literally started pulling away in shreds..........i looked at my daughter and said "oh my gosh its not suppose to do that" ( ok.....so i might have said a few other words....but you get the idea )
i calmly (yeah right) asked the bride to leave and let me figure out what to do...........(let me also say we had many many relatives visiting and everyone kept popping in to see how it was going)....i finally locked the door and told them that if any one tried to come in that hunting season would begin early.......(i live in the country so they knew what i meant )......the good news is i took the wilton fondant and mixed it half and half with my buttercream......it gave it the sturdiness i needed and looked great.....and still tasted good........the final outcome was worth it......but if i ever do this again....i think i would use the mmf........if you see the pic...let me know what you think..............(oh the things we do for our children!!!!!!) ( by the way.....my daughter and i made all the roses you see out of fondant using the wilton rose kit......)
glad to hear everything turned out.
I didn't know you could mix the rolled buttercream with fondant.
good to know.
I think it looks wonderful!
It still came out fine! I was afraid to look. My mom would do a lot for me, but I'm pretty sure she would draw the line at making my wedding cake. What a wonderful present for your dd.
Dlp,
The cake turned out beautiful!! If that were me I think I would've gone nuts!! I'm glad it went well for you!!
