For Christmas, I upgraded my mixer from the KA Artisan to the Pro 600 and I am really excited.
Last night was the first chance I've had to use it since I've been sick. I made three cake mixes in one batch. It was awesome!!
Today I made a double batch of buttercream without getting powdered sugar all over the kitchen. Oh it was soooo much easier.
I do find it will take some getting used to. Getting the bowl on and the paddle is a little awkward. I thought it would be easier to scrape down the bowl and paddle, but it seems to be more difficult. But still I love it and I will get used to it. It is going to make my life easier and my poor artisan was struggling to keep up!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any tips, hints, advice, suggestions about the Pro 600???
What do you do for really small jobs? Do they still work as well in that large bowl?
Thanks,
Susan

i have this one as well and love it! Especially since you can do larger batches all at once. I also found that scraping the bowl down was a bit of a challenge and haven't found a trick to it yet. It works well for smaller things as well, although I kept my 5 qt KA mixer as a backup and tend to use that more for smaller stuff.
You know, I saw that new 600 one at Bed, Bath and Beyond the other day and left drooling...
I just got the 600 the other day as a belated merry christmas to me gift.
I got it at BB&B with my 20% coupon and they also have a $30 mail in rebate!! woohoo!!
the only prob I had was to clear a cabinet big enough for it to fit in!!
You can really find a good deal on the Pro 600 if you shop around. My hubby bought mine at Costco and I made him take it back because he didn't do any reasearch on the price. Typical!!!
I ended up getting mine at Kohls. They had it on sale - I can't remember the exact price, but the sale price was great, then I got 15% off with a coupon and a $50 rebate, plus $60 in Kohls bucks, so I was happy!!
I saw another post were someone got BB&B to price match Amazon's price on the Pro 600 and then still used the 20% coupon. Good deal!!!
I am keeping my artisan too, so that is always an option when I have smaller stuff or when I have to do alot of different stuff and don't want to wash the bowl.
Did anyone buy an extra bowl? Or do you just wash the bowl between batches? I have two bowls for the artisan so I could make two different things with out having to wash the bowl - - I think I had to buy the smaller bowl separate.

Now why didn't I think of buying an extra bowl to get on with making the batches that little bit quicker?? I wouldn't do without mine and I only use a small hand mix when I'm doing little batches of buttercream...which isn't very often! I'm off to check the prices of the extra bowls!

Dumb question -- how does one get BB&B to match Amazon's price??? Just ask? (I'm asking because this has not even occurred to me!)
I too received my black licorice 600 for christmas, what a God send especially now that my orders are not just family any more. I like many of you kept my little guy (funny how the 600 dwarfs the artisan!). I haven't too many problems with the scrape down. My biggest complaint is the noise... it is soooo loud and whiny.. I called KA and they that since the motor is larger it is louder than the artisan.. so I won't complain. It took me a couple of uses to figure out to lock it into place on the back.. silly me, but overall I do love it. I haven't gotten an extra bowl, but I think that and extra paddle would be a great investment, less wash in between batters. I have used it for a single mix and it worked just fine, you just have to watch clumps... hope this helps!
I too have the 600. I, unlike many of you, have never used a smaller mixer. This is my first and only mixer so I fell in love with it from the beginning. No complaints. It is strong enough, even for my mmf. I use it for smaller batches as well.
My only need is an extra bowl. If I had a thriving business, I would most definitely make the investment. I think an extra one is about 60 bux.
I have a 5 qt K-5 mixer now. Would the bowl to that fit the KA 600? In the store it looked like it would not.
Congrats!! I have the 6 qt. Epicurean and I love it! My only complaint has been that the white epoxy paint on the paddle beater started to flake off! Believe me as soon as I noticed that, I started to panic as I did not want anyone to bite into a "crunchy" piece of cake!
I recommend having some spare bowls and paddles. I got burnished paddle beaters (no more white beaters for me) for $15 each at Mendingshed.com. The extra 6 qt. bowl, I got from ebay for about $25 plus shipping. Mendingshed.com carries everything you could possibly need for your KA mixers!! Just have your model number handy!!
