Anyone Watching Fn Challenge (Kerry Vincent)?
Decorating By Kimmers971 Updated 19 Nov 2009 , 1:11pm by yumcake06
OMG now I have to stay up and watch it from 3 am to 4 am....grrrrrrrr...I hate when I miss something dang it
omg.. what a freak haha. I imagine too much money and not enough sense would sum up her customers.
And I'm sorry, but that's hardly art
ETA: what's up with that jelly bean "lawn"? I can tell that took some real effort
WHAT
Holy Cow that is blaspheme!!!
What is wrong with these people.
Thank you for saying so. I try not to think about the $4/hour thing.
well you take comfort in knowing that Stevie the nut case may call herself an artist, but you've got it all over her.
isn't as good as $$$ but
(and I still want those shoes)
I thought Jason and his partner were absolutely the winner! He made that cake especially For Ms. Vincent. I found it very touching that this was her first Birthday Cake in many years... Zane's cake was fabulous! I was sorry to see Norman so sick, and WTG to the lady that stepped up to help! I loved Buddy's cake too. I just thought it was a little young for Kerry, and while I think she is a "pink" girl...I think it's a more subtle pink...lol Jason knows what Kerry cherishes and he honored her by making a beautiful classic cake just for her. String work on Challenge! You rock Jason! What a fine young man, and you will go far!
So far as Stevie... Being an "artist" does not give you license to be rude, unprofessional, a total pig in front of the nation, or disrespectful to someone who has most certainly paid her dues in this arena. Kerry Vincent has more artistry in her little finger than that nut ball will EVER Possess! It truly pisses me off to see such poor behavior by anyone. Give dues, where they are Earned. And there...are my two cents... lol
Pat B.
I can't resist....she's coo coo for 'coco' puffs!
can't.... stop... laughing... must...breathe...
This is living proof that not any artist can be a cake decorator.
I have a gentleman in my classes now who is an excellent artist. He's taken to decorating like a duck to water.
11 months ago I had an artist who couldn't do it. Each course she would just try her hardest but couldn't. She frosted beautifully, but BC and RI techniques were horrid.
Then came fondant & gumpaste... holy cow that was even a worse disaster.
I asked her if her art came naturally or if she practiced it to get to her level... pure natural talent.
I ran into her the other day and she said she's still doing cakes for family and friends only but she did pull out pictures to show me since she was heading to the store for some art supplies in hopes I'd be there.
She's come a long way in a year but she it's "there" in her own comfort zone yet and you can tell it's frustrating to her. She thought it would be a natural talent just like her main art talent.
Yeah... not!
Cake decorating isn't for everyone and I hope FN does not invite her back for challenges. It's a wasted kitchen for those who have the talent to be in it.
This is living proof that not any artist can be a cake decorator.
My sister is a great canvas artist. Can paint & draw great. In high school, I used to have her do my weekly art class sketches for me. But she doesn't even try to decorate cookies, let alone a cake. Can't do it.
I can't draw anything on paper. Nothing. But give me a canvas of icing and I can go to town.
Hubby is a fantastic wood artist. Can make beautiful furniture. But he tried a BC rose once and looked like Spiro Agnew.
I will be the first to admit I know nothing about abstract art, but
taking hunks of cake squishing them together to me is not art. If it is my children have bright futures ahead as artists !!!
If I wanted a cake that looked like my 3 and 5 year old children decorated it, then I wouldn't call her I'd turn it over to my children !!!
I can not imagine who would pay for some of her things like the "warped Easter". It looked like all store bought candies that she destroyed, put on sticks and stuck in a basket. Who would pay for that?
Oh well, I guess if she can make money by making a mess good for her !!
<- that was literally my face the ENTIRE time they were showing that monstrosity of a "cake decorator" and her "cake". if there was a pukey green face that would have been it, too. and besides the disgusting nature of her cake and kitchen, how about that attitude?? yes, be proud of your work (....if it merits it...), but don't think that you are ever better than anyone and that you just plain KNOW more than anyone. (i was thrilled when kerry started pulling different artists' names out of her hat. she knows what she's talking about, lady!) and yes, i did look at coco... my eyes still hurt and my brain can't comprehend what all the red was supposed to symbolize. i don't think i ever want it to. with all that said...
i loved jason's cake. it was perfect for kerry (and i also adore his assistant, but that besides the point ). as for buddy, it was a very cute-sy cake, but that's what it was... cute-sy. kerry and "cute-sy" don't really mesh. and i was bummed about norman because i love him. but zane definitely hit one out of the park. especially for his first time fondanting!
ok, well i'm done.
The lady who got to assist Zane after Norm was to ill to compete is Judy Ryal. She owns a store in Denver called Cake Crafts and is our Colorado ICES state representative. She really stepped up to the plate, I'm so proud of her!
It wasn't shown in the broadcast, but Judy and Zane took 2nd place and a silver medal!
While I do agree with the consensus here about Stevie...I can honestly say that I have known many artists that have alot of the same quirks as she does.
Remember art is different to everyone...it is in the eye of the beholder. Several of my artist friends have to get in that "zone" and feel the true meaning or feeling comes out only when they have reached that level. Stevie got into her "zone" during the mixer point. Her kitchen was messy but some art studios can look like that. Remember "zone".
Now all that being said...I definitely do not see her as a cake decorator. She is more of a chocolatier...a very ABSTRACT chocolatier. A very messy abstract chocolatier. I do not think she needs to be on the cake challenges.
Oh I just remembered they repeat that show Wednesday, so now I don't have to stay up all night hehehehe........is STevie the tattoes red head by any chance?
Ok...so normally Im a lurker too, I love reading posts but dont normally feel like I have any input. I have to talk to some fellow cakers about this train wreck though...
So I loved everyone but Stevie's work, and I thought Zane did a fantastic job stepping up.
So to anyone who looked at "coco" and the breast. I was thinking it would be abstract like everything else she does...but I dont think she couldnt make a sculpture like that if her life depended on it. Which made me think... ...that has got to be a mold from a real person...and that thought turned into oh god...that means im looking at someones ...why oh why did I look...
As far as the rest of her work, I guess whatever blows your skirt up. Im all for abstract art, and I can appreciate some of her pieces for the shock value, but why in hell FN has her on this show I dont know. I dont think has any skills in the execution of actually making or decorating a cake. I just think so many of you all deserve that slot so much more.
I think Stevie's cake is unique, Buddy's is very whimsical, Zane's cake is beautiful and Jason used a lot of great techniques (although I wasn't a fan of the colors).
If I were to pick a cake to take home, I'd rather take Jason and Joshua home. No not their cake but themselves. They are hot.
I personally like.... warping Easter...
Oh yeah...
I'm not even going to comment on Stevie..I think you all said everything I've thought and then some. I think I'm still in shock from some of the horrors on her site-and lingering memory of her kitchen on the show. Would you want to eat that after seeing the mess everywhere? Yuck! I thought that Zane's cake was so beautiful. Those painted flowers-what great detail! And I thought that Jason's cake did look very much like Kerry. I was surprised by Buddy's cake though. I thought he was known for his flowers-which to me would seem much more like Kerry than the cake that he did do. After seeing some pics of Kerry's cakes that she has done, I'm surprised that even Jason's cake seemed simple. You would think that they would have done some more string work or lace. I realize that this is a challenge and time is limited-it to me would just seem more up Kerry's alley. -Now off to bed..Hoping not to have Coco nightmares or see flying sugar in my dreams!
I thought stevie was doing that on purpose at first, just to "throw in Kerry's face", but then I looked at her website........eewwwww.
I think it is ridiculous that they even have her on the show. She gives cake decorators a bad name.
I thought it was disgusting the way she went about it, there is nooooo way I could even eat something that she touched. She was very dirty and unsanitary.
It made me literally sick to my stomach to watch her, I had to turn away so I would not puke.
I hope FN does not put her on the show again.
Even on my busiest and messiest days, my kitchen has never even came close to being anything like that kitchen!
Has she never heard of "clean as you go"?
She reminds me of a person who sticks their fingers in the food and licks them the whole time she is baking/cooking/decorating or sucks on the end of the tip then decorates some more.
Just disgusting.
She may be an "artist" but she certainly isn't a cake artist. Go back to throwing paint on canvas
I think Zane did an amazing job and was shocked he didn't win it. Jason's was really nice too, but I think Zane's was better suited for Kerry and just plain beautiful.
Oh well, let's see what next week brings. Have a great week
I think Zane should have won too, his cake was beautiful. jason's was good but not great, as was Buddy's (though I agree with the judges that it wasn't Kerry). Why they keep inviting Stevie back is beyond me, watching her made me want to puke
I was torn between Jason's and Zane's cakes...I think Jason won because he tried so hard to please Kerry. It seemed he took to heart all the criticism she has given him as a judge in past challenges as well as what she said she wanted for her birthday cake.
I was sooo impressed by Zane! He really stepped up to the plate. I'm sure Norman was proud.
I agree with everyone, Stevie needs to stay out of the kitchen! What a total mess that was, she makes herself look like a total idiot everytime she's on a challenge. I'm wondering if Duff was watching as she lit the alcohol and tried putting it out by blowing on it! As for her making the icing in the mixer I've always tried to keep the sugar in the bowl!!! LOL
If I were to pick a cake to take home, I'd rather take Jason and Joshua home. No not their cake but themselves. They are hot.
I love those guys too, but in an old married lady kind of way... I was so happy to see them win, more than anyone else, they really seemed to be trying to do things for Kerry. Plus I just adore their personalities. DH watched with me and he laughed out loud several times at their comments, even though he's sick of cake challenges. Zane's cake was fantastic as well. I didn't think Buddy's suited Kerry, although he always impresses me with how quick & clean he is. I can't even bring myself to comment on Stevie's. I won't knock her 'art' (I imagine I'm too closed minded and b*tchy to understand it), but she's no cake decorator.
All the guys did great, and I'm glad Jason won since he seemed to be really intent on capturing Kerry in his design. In re Stevie - just because you think you are an artist, doesn't mean that you are. And just because some additional delusional people believe your hype, it still doesn't mean that you are...
Jason saying "light fire on a sugar-wrapped cake??.....you must be on acid" had me laughing for the rest of the night. He's a doll. I really envy these really young people with this huge talents. LOVE Jason and Josh, they'd be so fun to hang out with (and I have kids their age!!) Then I had to go and fall in love with Zane. What cool people!!
Stevie...well, no, I'm not an artist, and no, I don't get it....with that said: 'Hey, Stevie, neither are you, and neither do you!' so get over it! I thought that mess she threw together was an insult to anyone even remotely involved in the business.
