Just look online for "snowball cookies" or "Mexican Wedding cakes".... they are all about the same, very simple as far as ingredients go.

This is what I had in mind for tea cakes. sometimes they even have a little nutmeg in them. It's more of a puffy, cakelike cookie, probably derived from using what you have to make something sweet.
Southern Tea Cakes
Ingredients:
4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoon baking powder
2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 lb (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl sift flour, baking soda, and baking powder together. Add remaining ingredients and blend well. Dough should be soft. Roll dough out onto a floured surface until approximately 1/4 inch thick. Cut dough into desired shapes and bake on a slightly greased sheet for 10 to 12 minutes.
Yield: 6 to 8 dozen
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Ease of Preparation: Easy

Thanks for the recipe DeeDelightful! This is the tea cake I remember from childhood. My Great Aunt Leila made these with a touch of cake spice. I'll try this to see if they turn out like hers.
