Has anyone had problems with their kitched aid mixers leaking small amounts of oil. I have had my mixer for about 10 years and up untill just recently only used it about once a week or so. I looked up info on the internet and found that this seems to be a common problem and kitchen aid doesn't back their product. Whenever it's time to buy a new mixer I'm not sure if I want to buy a Kitchen Aid. What kind of mixers do you guys use and would recommend?? Thanks
I had a KitchenAid Artisan mixer for about 10 yrs also. About 3 yrs ago it started leaking oil also. I called KitchenAid and they said it was because I wasn't using it enough. My husband bought me the Professional one about a year ago. So far so good on this one. I do use it more then my Artisan since it is more powerful. I haven't heard of leaking oil in the Pro series.
I also got that response which I find kind of strange. I would think that using it once or twice a week would be enough.
VIKING!!! Check out this website. I can't find Vikings actual website (of course now that I want to share it with someone), but I've done some research. Here's my post... http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-633452-.html

Yes, leaking is a common problem. KA said the oil is foodsafe, although I don't want it in my batter.
Are you referring to the blackish reside that ends up at the bottom of the bowl after mixing batter or icing? If so - YES i always have this problem and I use my mixer all the time!
Mine began leaking (the oldest one which is about 20 years old), but it's only when the mixer has been running for an extended amount of time. It is a food safe grease (like RylanTy stated...I don't want it in my icing or batter). I feel it's passed due for a tune up and relubing. I'm sure it's just the original lubing breaking down from so much abuse. It's been a fine mixer!
