i live in tx and the rule is that you have to bake in a seperate building so i was planning on building a little extra building next to my house, but having it in the garage or basement would be sooooo much better. i wonder if that would be possible here?

and as far as saving money, try looking on craigslist or talking to some closing down resturants about equipment, you should be able to get a good deal on some used stuff.

ok, here is my space.
Single car garage converted. More function than form but I like it. I do have 2 large racks of storage in another room for mixes, boxes and kits.

My space is only 200 sq feet. Not nearly big enough but it will have to do right now.

What is it about stainless every time I see it , it makes my liver quiver. I LOVE THE LOOK OF IT!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you all, I bake out of my kitchen and at my age of starting I'm only in it for about 5 more years and no sense of putting this kinda money into it, though I would love to be able to. Enjoy you all !!!!!!

Debster--I'm 57, and age was definitely a concern of mine. I decided that if I could get 10 enjoyable years out of it it would be worth it--especially since the room itself, added to the garage, could always be converted to something else.

Wow! They all look so great. I am in the process of saving up for my fancy kitchen. We are on a 2 year plan so hopefully we will have mine by summer '11. I'm tired of renting kitchen space. It is so cool to see all of your great kitchens to see ideas and just dream! icon_biggrin.gif

I intend to drop the dough for a licensed basement kitchen at the age of somewhere around 60 - 62, as a second career when I retire (I am now 56). As my DH said, even if I never sell enough cakes to get the money back, I can play and bake for friends and family to my heart's content and not have to worry about cleaning up for dinner or taking up all our kitchen space with cake stuff. He asked, and a good question it was, how is that any different than all the thousands you spent on your sewing room, and what? You sold a dozen baby blankets and a few monograms?? It makes you happy to have your sewing room, doesn't it??

What a guy! He shops and cooks too!
