I have done several zebra stripe cakes. I tried using a template on the very first one. But it was more trouble, than it was worth. I roll a sheet of black fondant out and cut random stripe patterns out of it with an exacto knife. Peel them up one by one and apply to the cake in the pattern you like. I have done, squares, rounds and sheet cakes with this method. You can see a picture of a few of them in my pics on this site. Hope this helps.

Ditto, TxBama.
I think a template would be more trouble than free handing it.

I need a pattern, cutter, whatever for everything, but even I did this one freehanded. HTH

The easiest way I've found is to use a pizza cutter and just weave in and out of the rolled black fondant. Very easy. icon_biggrin.gif

I did a Tinkerbell Zebra cake....my very first. What I did since I work in b/c and not fondant.

I iced my cake with the color base in this case bright pink....then I got plain computer paper...and an exacto knife....and cut stripes out as I thought they should be....basically made a stencil.

Then I used my airbrushing kit, and held the stencil up against the cake and sprayed the purple...look at my cake and see what I ended up with, cant post in here for some reason.

If you go there, please leave a comment....thanks!
