I just went to the floral dept at Michael's and picked out a little metal wire. (You will need to buy wire cutters too). Anyway, I just looked at all the different kinds and chose one that was in the middle (not too thick and not too thin).

Then I rolled out the fondant, cut 2 of the A and then laid the A down painted it with vanilla, stuck the wire in and then I put another A on top of that and squished it together like a sandwich. It has to dry for a long time. But it worked out perfect. So you have to make two of every letter in order for my method to work. Hope this makes sense!

When using Tappits you need to make/roll thin to make cut outs and what cylstrial is saying would work but you should try it out a head of time to see if the wire will hold up to the weight of the fondant. It needs to be thin enough to hide in between those skinny letters and thick enough to stand up to the weight. And use gumpaste for strength. Those cutters are in my shopping cart right now and I can't wait to try them out. How do you like them? I heard it helps if you roll and then give your paste time to set firm a minute before cutting so they release easy and don't fall apart... and dusting with corn flour.

I love the tappits too, but until you get the hang of them...they can be a little difficult. I actually use gumpaste with the tappits.

Gum paste is edible but I don't think it taste very good. Try adding some tylose to your fondant and that should work too.

No - you should not eat gumpaste. You will have to use fondant or chocolate clay on your cookies.

Tappits can be your best friend....and they can cause you to become enraged with homicidal thoughts. I actually came up with a new name for them when I used them the first night. "Whackits"....as I had to whack them on the table like a ruler.....like, seriously thought I was going to break them, the force it took to get them out.

Then, I realized I needed a bit more patience, allow the GP to dry a bit before cutting.

Now, my favorite way is to stamp out all the ltters, so they stay on the table, and gently pull the GP away from the letters with a bit of help from an Exacto knife, but mostly, I pull all the excess away just fine without any help.
