I need some ideas for a graduation cake that I am making for this weekend. It will be a sheet cake (11x15) and I'm also making two dozen cupcakes. I already know how I'm decorating the cupcakes. My problem is with the main cake. It will be for three people who are graduating and they all go to different schools. The school colors are black and gold; brown and gold; and blue and white.

I am trying to figure out how to incorporate all three colors onto one cake and have it not look tacky. I am planning on making fondant grad. caps and diplomas for the cupcakes so I really don't want to put them on the cake too. I was thinking about using fondant stars on the cake.
Any suggestions??

im thinking stripes. maybe a piped square in the middle with something like 'congratulations' and lines of bc/ fondant coming over the sides, to meet the square.
i like the star idea too though, in my mind, much simpler than trying to match up lines, lol.
you could do a gallery search on graduation too, theres loads of good pics. and there was a thread yeasterday about them too, a few people had just finised their grad cakes, and posted all the pics.
xx

Thanks. I had thought about stripes like you said, but I was afraid with the color combinations that it wouldn't look right. Now I'm kinda thinking about trying to make three bears out of fondant and put caps & gowns on them. I've never made figures before though, so I don't know if I will be able to or not.

Hi Amy.......what part of Ohio are you in? I'm just west of Cleveland. Anyway about the Graduates I had to do some once and I used my scrapbooking template for people and made some, I think the picture is in my album. If I had it to do over I would of made them all different colored gowns. Good luck and post a picture. That's gonna be a tuffy with all those colors.

On the main page, Aine2 has a little bear tutorial, and they are so cute, the you could just put little gowns or just caps in their school colors. That might be enough to tie everything together. HTH
