Hi CC, I was wondering if you all could help me out, I was watching Cake Boss last night and Buddy steamed a X-BOX cake now my question is for someone at home what type of machine could I use that's inexpensive and that would work as well as a professional steamer....THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

You know it almost looked to me like a clothes steamer I had. I thought about trying it out next time I did a fondant cake.

I didn't catch that episode. What was the purpose of steaming the fondant? I thought moisture and fondant don't mix. Just wondering... icon_confused.gif

Shanna banana, I didn't see the episode they are talking about but I know with pastels and lustre dusts the purpose of steaming is to sort of blend in the powders so they look more natural, plus they adhere better.

I think it is just a hand steamer. It is my understanding that if you "steam" fondant or gumpaste it "sets" the colors and also makes them more vibrant. Buddy also said last night that it makes the fondant nice and shiny.

I LOVE CAKE BOSS!

The steam is not to make it wet so it gets sticky is just enough so the colors adhere and intensify. Anything that throws steam will work. The clothes steamer is great cause it has a hose and you can move it easier. But even a kettle would work for smaller details like gumpaste flowers.

He used a small hand steamer. That fondant was brilliantly shiny when he finished. It was awesome.

Annacakes, cake boss is the new show (Food Network I think) and it has Buddy V.

I think I'm right. Haven't seen it myself but I heard lots about it before it came out.

Yes, the show is the same name as the software that's always advertised here. icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif
